Community College of Baltimore County presents Waiting for Godot, a play by Samuel Beckett, Oct. 19-23, 2017 performed in the F. Scott Black Theatre, Romadka College Center at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd.

The original French text of Waiting for Godot was written by Samuel Beckett in the late 1940s as the world recovered from World War II. Vastly different from the dramatic work of the early 20th century, Waiting for Godot abandons climactic plot structure in favor of circular plotlines, repetitive language and a reluctance to create "meaning." Largely influenced by existentialist philosophy and the idea that the world is devoid of meaning or purpose, this spoke to the tension and uncertainty of the era in a way that earlier theatre, with its logical plot structure and language, could not.

Directed by CCBC Professor Julie Lewis, this highly collaborative production faithfully reproduces Beckett's classic absurdist comedy and transplants it to the streets of Baltimore in the 21st century. The performance grapples with today's uncertain times and will inspire people from all walks of life as they contemplate the future with hope, humor, exhaustion, and fear.

Performance dates and times are as follows:

Thursday, Oct. 19 at 11:10 a.m.
