The Volkshtheater has won another award at the 59th Berlin Theater Meeting. This year, the EUR 5,000 Alfred Kerr Actors' Prize goes to Volkstheater ensemble member Samouil Stoyanov for his performance in the production 'humanistää!' directed by Claudia Bauer. (Claudia Bauer received 3rd prize for this.) Actress Valery Cheplanowa, juror for this year's Alfred Kerr Actors' Prize, made her decision after seeing the ten productions invited to the 59th Theatertreffen.

Turlock High School was set to perform Joe Iconis' hit musical Be More Chill from this Thursday, April 7th through today, Sunday, April 10th. Outcry from the site administration caused the school district to cancel the production after the opening night performance.

A brand-new musical written by Connecticut writers took the stage in Ivoryton last night to laughter, cheers and standing ovations. STAR OF FREEDOM, with music and lyrics by Jeff Blaney and book by Lawrence Thelen, opened the Playhouse’s 2022 Season beginning April 7.

Broadway In Detroit announced today that tickets for the Fisher Theatre engagement of ANASTASIA, May 3-8, 2022, will go on sale Friday, March 11. Tickets start at $39 and will be available for purchase online at Ticketmaster.com and in person at the Fisher Theatre Box Office.

According to a Deadline article, acclaimed costume and set designer Tony Walton has passed away at the age of 87. He died on March 2nd from issues related to a stroke. Bridget LeRoy, his stepdaughter, released the news of his death on Facebook, writing, “A fond and loving farewell to the most fabulous stepdad and human being in the world. Love you forever, Tony Walton. Have a great trip.” 

Queer, Mexican-American musician and composer FELIX III today released his debut video and single, “After Hours.” FELIX III’s music focuses on giving into carnal pleasures at the cost of mental wellbeing – and centers around unlearning the damage caused by poverty, homophobia, higher education, heartbreak and the great sadness of not living up to the American Dream that we are conditioned to believe in as our ultimate goal.

Jess Kellie Adams' new video, 'Thinking Out Loud,' premiered yesterday on Taste of Country and is now available on Youtube. The track is the follow-up to Adams' 'Saving Grace' which saw support across multiple outlets including CMT.com, The Country Network, Heartland, and other nationally syndicated and regionally based programs. It also spent weeks in the Top 10 on Taste of Country's weekly video countdown. 

Act II Playhouse in Ambler, PA announces their latest stage production, Buyer and Cellar, written by Jonathan Tolins, directed by Tony Braithwaite and starring Zachary Chiero. The show runs from March 1 through April 2. 

1st Stage continues the 2021-2022 season with The Phlebotomist, a dark, gripping science-fiction romance. In a sci-fi-inspired world where genomics is the norm, every person gets assigned a “rating” at birth  based on their genetic map. Bea, a phlebotomist, finds herself being pulled deeper and deeper into the dark side of the genetic testing underworld even as she falls in love with Aaron, a man she met by accident who has a near-perfect rating that far exceeds her own.

Produced and directed by Erick Weiss and his Honeysweet Creative team, the 9th Annual Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild (MUAHS) awards, presented by HASK® Beauty, will take place LIVE on February 19, 2022, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, as well as be streamed to thousands worldwide on YouTube and Vimeo. The MUAHS awards gala, honoring outstanding achievements of both make-up artists and hair stylists in motion pictures, television, commercials and live theater, is co-produced by Honeysweet Creative and IngleDodd Media. 

59E59 Theaters (Artistic Director: Val Day, Managing Director: Brian Beirne) is currently staging their latest devised production by the Happenstance Theater, BAROCOCO. BAROCOCO is running in Theater B. The show began previews on February 9, and opens today, February 13th. It is set to play until March 6, 2022. 

The New Jersey Repertory Company announced their 2022 season today, February 13th. The theatre company, founded in 1997, will stage four productions from now through August.

The Capital Classics Theatre Company has announced that they will stage Much Ado About Nothing at the 2022 Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival. The production will take place on the beautiful outdoor grounds of the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut from July 14th through the 31st, 2022.

The Theatre School @ North Coast Rep is set to present a modern retelling of one of the oldest tales in the English language. Beowulf (and the Bard) is a fun, frenetic and freewheeling farce that updates the Old English poem about the warrior Beowulf, who must rescue the mead hall from a hideous ogre (and from the ogre’s even more hideous mother). Told through the eyes of the epic’s writer—a character known simply as “the bard”—the comedy’s events unfold much differently than the familiar story passed down through the ages.

On January 27th, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts announced its 2022 awards, with 20 artists recognized in the fields of dance, music & sound art, performance art & theater, poetry, and the visual arts. Among the grantees is Petr Kotik, who receives the 2022 John Cage Award.

The Choral Artists of Sarasota named its apprentice scholarship in honor of Dr. Ann Stephenson-Moe. The announcement was made on Saturday, January 22, at a reception hosted by Gretchen Rimmer. The reception was a fundraiser in support of Choral Artists’ education and outreach programs and the apprentice scholarship. The presentation celebrated Stephenson-Moe for her achievements and featured a performance by the New York-based Gilbert & Sullivan Players.
