NeON Inspires To Feature Michael K. Williams And Dominic Dupont At Carnegie Hall

On Monday, January 7 from 6 to 8 p.m., youth from across New York City will come together in Carnegie Hall's Resnick Education Wing for a screening and discussion of Raised in the System, a documentary executive produced by Michael K. Williams.

An Emmy award-winning actor, Williams is best known for his remarkable work on HBO's The Wire and Boardwalk Empire. Raised in the System follows Williams as he embarks on a personal journey to expose the root of the American mass incarceration crisis: the juvenile justice system. Williams will be Joined At The event by Dominic Dupont, who was convicted of murder at the age of 19. Since he was granted clemency, Dupont has shared his story in Raised in the System and with a variety of audiences and venues. The event will also feature poet, artist, and songwriter Mal Mero.

NeON Inspires aims to bring about interactive, youth-led conversations with cultural icons that inspire ideas, foster learning, and provoke change. The invited audience will include young people from all seven neighborhoods in which the DOP's Neighborhood Opportunity Networks (NeONs) operate-Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brownsville, East New York, Harlem, South Jamaica, Staten Island, and the South Bronx-as well as artists, mentors, and staff.

NeON Inspires is a part of NeON Arts, a free program of the NYC Department of Probation in partnership with Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute that gives youth the chance to explore the arts through a variety of creative projects throughout the year. Recently, Westat and Metis Associates released an independent evaluation of the program, highlighting the positive impact NeON Arts has had across the city in its first five years.
