Disney's ALADDIN Launches New Video Library To Accompany Its Education Programme

Disney's hit West End musical Aladdin has launched a brand new video library to accompany its education programme. Nine short films have been made in consultation with teachers in order to help pupils prepare for their theatre experience as well as deepen their knowledge and understanding of the processes involved in theatre making.

Aladdin's curriculum-linked education resources are created for Key Stage 2, 3 and BTEC pupils, with workshops for pupils aged 7+ also available.

VIDEO LIBRARY

  • Hosted by Angellica Bell (The One Show, CBBC) the videos feature exclusive new footage of rehearsals and interviews with both the show's original creative team and the London cast and crew, which have been filmed in both London and New York.
  • The video library will give teachers and students a new insight into Aladdin's costumes, scenic design, music, charactisation, backstage crew, the ensemble, and more.
  • To further enrich these resources all episodes feature end card questions to spark debate and encourage further learning. Production notes and a practitioner profile for Bob Crowley, Aladdin's scenic designer who is also a prescribed practitioner on the AQA Theatre Studies A-Level specification, are also available.

The new films will link to the curriculum in the following ways;

  • Performing Arts: Pupils gain knowledge of direction, concept, artistic vision and how meaning is communicated, collaborative working as well as what jobs and roles are in the theatre industry.
  • English: Pupils will use Standard English formal and informal contexts, including classroom and structured discussions
  • Art and Design: Pupils will learn how source inspire design, ways in which meanings, ideas and intentions can be communicated through design & analyse theatre using the language of design.

CLASSROOM RESOURCES FOR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS:

  • Aladdin's education programme has been designed to maximise the learning potential of a trip to see the production. Prior to the theatre visit, pre-show resources can be freely accessed on the shows education website, these include session ideas, background to the show, including synopsis, journey to the stage, insight into what inspired the show as well as information on preparing a group for their theatre trip.
  • The primary school resources consist of creative session ideas that can inspire cross- curricular learning in English, art and design, music, PSHE as well as producing an assembly.
  • For secondary schools there are sessions ideas in subject areas English, Dance and PSHE which teachers can adapt to suit their schemes of work.

PRE-SHOW WORKSHOPS:

  • Schools can choose from 4 practical workshops: Introductory Movement and Music, Spotlight on Acting, Spotlight on Singing and Spotlight on Dance. Each workshop is adapted to the specific needs and level of expertise of the group.
  • Disney Theatrical Teaching artists lead the group through 90 minutes of singing, dancing and acting. All workshops give students the rare opportunity to explore the world of the production and learn content from the show they are about to see.

Theatre tickets are now available for education groups of 10+ with prices beginning at £19.50 and education workshops are £12.50 per pupil. For booking information please visit www.aladdineducation.co.uk.
