Children's Museum of Manhattan Hosts The Wizard of Oz Interactive Exhibit, Opens 9/25

The Children's Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) announced it will host The Wizard of Oz, the first licensed traveling educational exhibit based on the beloved movie classic, from September 25, 2010 to January 9, 2011. The exhibit will be on display for the first time in New York City. The Wizard of Oz is an adventure of self-discovery for the whole family, allowing children and parents alike to follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Land of Oz, where they will explore Munchkinland and The Emerald City and learn about science and the arts.

This interactive exhibit is a fantasy-adventure that takes children and families over the rainbow to celebrate a classic film that is over 70 years old. Along the way, visitors will experience the adventures of Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion as they overcome obstacles and discover their inner strengths. The exhibit features exclusive elements from the movie including Dorothy's Ruby Slippers, the characters everyone knows and loves from the film, and classic movie moments.

The Wizard of Oz is composed of six areas that enable visitors to relive their favorite scenes from the movie:

Marquee Entrance - Learn about the movie The Wizard of Oz and see Dorothy's Ruby Slippers.
Gale Farm - Get a glimpse of life on a farm by visiting Professor Marvel's wagon, the Gale farmyard, and Dorothy's bedroom. Learn about different animals on The Farm, how a tornado works, and peer at optical illusions.
Munchkinland - Experience the color and creativity of Munchkinland. Visit the rainbow-colored Munchkin houses, play with music tubes, create your own Munchkin person and build a rainbow with soft sculpture blocks.
Crossroads - Meet Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion and overcome different challenges to determine your personal strengths.
Wicked Witch's Castle - Prove your courage and skill by climbing the mountain to the Wicked Witch's Castle and capturing the Wicked Witch's broom from Winged Monkeys.
Emerald City - Explore Emerald City, experiment with the different properties of light and create special effects.

The Wizard of Oz Children's Educational Exhibition debuted in Miami in 2009 and will be on display in many major cities, including Boston, Minneapolis and Pittsburgh. The exhibit was created by the Miami Children's Museum and SPARKS, in conjunction with Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

The Wizard of Oz is on display from September 25, 2010 through January 9, 2011 at the Children's Museum of Manhattan located in The Tisch Building at 212 West 83rd Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam.
