Joe's Pub announces its upcoming concerts and events for the week of January 11 to 18.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 12

BLAKE MORGAN, MELISSA GIGES W/ GIL MORGENSTERN AND JONATHAN ELLI
at 7:00 PM; $15
Four of New York City's finest recording artists perform together on the same stage in the second Engine Company Records label showcase. National recording artist and ECR founder Blake Morgan will debut new songs from his forthcoming album and perform fan favorites alongside label-mate Melissa Giges. There will be special appearances by ECR artists and label-mates Gil Morgenstern and Jonathan Ellinghaus.

LJOVA AND THE KONTRABAND / JOFRE ROMARION NEW TANGO QUARTET
at 9:30 PM; $12 in Advance, $15 at Door
Ljova and the Kontraband -- is chamber-jam music for the "remix generation". As if by alchemy, Eastern-European and Gypsy melodies, Latin rhythms, Jazz-inspired improvisations, and deeply rooted Classical forms are given new meanings in original compositions that fearlessly forge a new direction, with a nostalgic gaze towards the past.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13

FINDLAY BROWN
at 7:30 PM; $12
Findlay Brown owns a fluent, flexible pop tenor tending toward heaven but that retains an earthbound familiarity. Songs like "Nobody Cared" and "Everybody Needs Love" make easeful use of the grammar of love triumphant and/or distressed yet the net emotional effect oF Brown's careful, involved, yet unfussy performances on these thrillingly well-engineered tracks make the pieces dart off in myriad different directions sometimes unpredictable.

JEFFREY FOUCAULT AND KRIS DELMHORST
at 9:30 PM

Jeffrey Foucault's most recent album, has THE CHICAGO SUN-TIMES calling it "one of the best albums of the year" and saying that "Jeffrey Foucault incorporates the best of the Americana, alt-country and roots-rock genres into his third solo album... those who recall Bruce Springsteen in the pre-"Born to Run" days will hear echoes of the Boss." THURSDAY, JANUARY 14

REID GENAUER WITH SPECIAL GUEST JOHNNY MARNELL
at 7:00 PM; $20
Reid Genauer's success as a songwriter is qualitatively evidenced by the connectedness of his audience with his lyrics and quantitavily supported by two recent top 40 AAA hits: "Man With A Plan" from the Album Honest Hour and "Telling Sue" from Recollection.

CONNI'S AVANT GARDE RESTAURANT
at 9:30 PM; $20
Conni's Avant Garde Restaurant (a NYTimes Urban Eye pick and Village Voice Choice) returns to Joe's Pub for an a-la-carte cabaret honoring the life's work of the legendary Miss Conni Convergence, beloved icon of stage and screen, who is scheduled to make a rare personal appearance. The evening will include a live cooking demonstration of Miss Conni's latest culinary innovation.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 15

STEEP CANYON RANGERS
at 7:00 PM; $15
The Steep Canyon Rangers' deep dedication to bluegrass is heard in every note they play. But it's the band's amazing songwriting talent that makes them truly exceptional. With a sound firmly rooted in bluegrass tradition, their ability to draw musical elements from hardcore honky-tonk, classic country, and blues sets them apart from the rest of the pack.

KRISTINA TRAIN WITH SPECIAL GUEST SOPHIE MADELEINE
at 9:00 PM; $12
Kristina Train's powerful voice is leaving audiences amazed. Often compared to the likes of Allison Krauss, Dusty Springfield, and Bonnie Raitt, the Savannah, Georgia native is making a name for herself with deep, expressive vocals and fiddle in hand.
Sophie Madeleine's debut album Love.Life.Ukulele is a rare charm - steeped in timeless talent, its honest lyrics are backed by an understated arrangement with a contemporary twist.

ALICE SMITH
at 11:30 PM; $20

Alice Smith is, on the evidence of her solo debut, 'For Lovers, Dreamers & Me' (BBE Records), the most promising female singer-songwriter to go her own enrapturing way in a very long time. She was named one of "10 Artists to Watch" in Rolling Stone and has struck a chord through audiences through tours with Citizen Cope and Santogold. SATURDAY, JANUARY 16

THE SNOW/ LUCINDA BLACK BEAR
at 7:00 PM; $15
Come celebrate the release of The Snow's brilliant sophomore CD, "I Die Every Night" on Vermillion Music. They will be playing songs of love, death, redemption, birds, reptiles, and dirt.
Lucinda Black Bear is the new project led by Christian Gibbs (of Passing Strange) and fleshed out with instrumentalists from the Brooklyn melodic folk scene : Mike Cohen (Soft Explosions, Bad Teenage Moustache) on bass, Kristin Mueller (Gloria Deluxe aka Cynthia Hopkins, CaulField Sisters, Ports of Call) on Drums, Chad Hammer ..o, and Clare Burson on violin. BASSAM SABA ENSEMBLE
at 9:30 PM; $12
In this exciting New York CD-release, Bassam Saba performs the music of his long-awaited debut album Wonderful Land with his sextet, The Bassam Saba Ensemble. Saba's compositions, passionate and richly complex, are deeply rooted in Saba's native Lebanese and Arabic folk music, infused with elements of western classical arrangement.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 17

JOHN CARLIN & THE KIDS MUSIC UNDERGROUND
at 12:00 PM; $15; Kids Ages 2 and Under Get in Free!
A respected early childhood music educator in NYC for nearly a decade, John Carlin also has genuine indie cred. (His old band toured with Radiohead and PJ Harvey, among others.) With music that's goofy and groovy, silly and sophisticated, John Carlin & The KMU continue to prove to audiences of all ages why they've earned the label 'one of the best kids' bands in NYC'.

WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW: JACOB STERLING feat. David Pittu
at 7:30 PM; $25
Tony-nominated actor David Pittu--last seen in this summer's triumphant Twelfth Night at the Delacorte--will return as his alter ego Jacob Sterling, the "living, American musical theater composer working in an age of terror" from last season's acclaimed What's That Smell: The Music of Jacob Sterling, for three nights only in January at Joe's Pub.

MATT THE ELECTRICIAN / JESS KLEIN
at 9:30 PM; $12
Matt the Electrician tours all over the world, and has just finished his 6th self-released studio album, "Animal Boy", which will be officially released in Austin, TX on October 6th. Matt worked with Mark Addison at The Aerie Studio again, and while he brought some amazing musicians in to help with the project, Matt and Mark play most of the instruments on the record.
A folk troubadour whose talents have been lauded on the national and international scene for almost a decade, Jess Klein writes songs that tell the story of the soul - from wrenching heartbreak to finding the strength to pick up and move on.

MONDAY, JANUARY 18

SOJOURN AT ARARAT

Originally premiering at the Edinburgh International Fringe Festival, with its creators, Nora Armani & Gerald Papasian, Sojourn at Ararat has been seen on 4 continents, in more than 25 cities worldwide, receiving accolades & awards.
