There must scarcely be any Indian entertainment buff who wouldn't have loved Shah Rukh Khan in Devdas. While novelist Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic has remained in posterity amongst the literati. But after the epic Bollywood remake, the novella gained mainstream momentum.

This one of the most famous love sagas in the history of literature in India, is now being brought to stage. This epic love tale that has by now translated into many Indian languages will be shown in an grand musical style on stage by AGP World.

The on-stage rendition will be seen through the eyes of Chandramukhi, the coutesan who falls in love with Devdas. Directed by Saif Hyder Hasan, the performance boasts of other actors who have time again proven their caliber on stage or on small screen. The 150-minute play will have actors such as Gaurav Chopra, Manjari Fadnavis, Suniul Pal, Sukhda Khandekar and Smita Jayekar who was part of Devdas the movie too.

Anubody who has followed the classic would have wondered what happens to Paro or Chandramukhi after Devdas. So, for lovers of this story, the play offers the answers to this by taking the story ahead.

According to the production team, the play will showcase the grandeur the story deserves. Set in Calcutta during the 1900s, the audiences would want to catch a feel of the time in period of history when Calcutta was a city of havelis and busy, bustling streets. But with award winner set designer Omung Kumar on the mission to recreate the bygone lanes of Calcutta, the audience can be assured to get a visual trest in terms of originality.

The director promises that everything from dialogues to dance performances will bring out a new nuance to the much-loved tale. The timeless saga continues to inspire through various mediums and as the creative forces behind the show would make us believe the new presentation definitely looks worth its while to check it out.
