By: Molly Tracy Apr. 13, 2017
The Canton Ceramic Artists Guild, an affiliate group of the Canton Museum of Art, will hold their 26th Annual May Show and Sale on Friday, May 5, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, and Saturday, May 6, from 10:00am to 2:00pm, in the Wilkof Courtyard and lobby at the Canton Museum of Art. Admission to the event is free. The Museum is located in the Cultural Center for the Arts, 1001 Market Avenue North, in downtown Canton.
A wide variety of handcrafted, decorative and functional pottery, clay sculpture and more will be on display and available for purchase. All works are made by members of the Guild, and purchases at the show support ceramic education programs at the Museum. This year's show coincides with the Canton Museum of Art's major new exhibition, "Avatars: Relics from the Future" featuring awe-inspiring works from ceramic artist Gary Spinosa. For the 21st year, Guild members will be participating in the "Empty Bowls Against Hunger" program. Guild artists and students from Glen Oak High School have created and donated unique bowls, which will be sold during the show for a minimum "purchase" donation of $15.00, with all proceeds given to the Stark County Hunger Task Force. In recent years, the Guild has raised more than $1,000.00 annually through the "Empty Bowls" initiative. The show and sale opens at 4:00pm on May 5, featuring live entertainment by "Rock Salt & Nails," a local band of visual artists, performing original folk and traditional acoustic music. Free refreshments will be served. The Museum galleries will be open, with free admission to all exhibits. The Canton Ceramic Artists Guild is a volunteer organization of professional local artists who support the Museum's ceramic education programs. These experienced potters and sculptors use and maintain the CMA ceramics studio providing demonstrations for school tours and a place where art is created daily in the Museum.
