DELIKATESSEN To Open In Albuquerque Before Possible New York City Run

The play, DeliKateSSen which playwright Richard Atkins describes as a psychological thriller with Holocaust elements is having a limited run at the VSA North Fourth Art Center (4904 4th. St., N.W.) in Albuquerque, the first two weekends before Thanksgiving.
BWW Review: THE WOMEN at Adobe Theatre

The Women, a play by Clare Boothe Luce, is a comedy of manners that is a social commentary on the lives and power struggles of wealthy Manhattan socialites in 1936. The play has been performed on Broadway several times and had two movies based off of it, including a contemporary remake starring Meg Ryan, Eva Mendez, and Jada Pinkett Smith. According to the director, James Cady, The Women is, 'a play about men, told by women.' The play has a cast entirely made up of women and is about, 'love and what happens when you take it for granted and then lose it.'

Even though the subject matter is heavy, Elliot, a Soldier's Fugue, part one of the Elliot Trilogy by Quiara Alegria Hughes, left me with a light feeling at the end. I was looking forward to part two, Water By the Spoonful, this week, hopeful for a similar experience. Part two was a whole other experience and this time, the heaviness did not subside at the conclusion.

She tells and sings of life during the Great Depression, the loss of three children, and the Second World War, in which she sends two sons away to serve in the Marines and in the Navy.

The Santa Fe Opera Announces Five New Appointments To The Santa Fe Opera Orchestra

The Santa Fe Opera is delighted to announce the appointment of five musicians joining the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra in the 2020 Season. The appointments are the result of highly competitive auditions which occurred on-site in August 2019. In addition to a new Concertmaster, Steven Moeckel, four other positions have also been filled: Margot Schwartz, Assistant principal second violin; Jennifer Best Takeda, Section violin; Alistair Eng, Assistant principal cello; and Rachel Blumenthal, Second flute/piccolo. A record-topping 276 applications were received for the various positions; these were then winnowed to a select number of invitations for audition.
