Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters will host the seventh annual BROADWAY BARKS!, a star-studded dog and cat adopt-a-thon benefiting New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies. The event, produced by Broadway Care/Equity Fights AIDS and sponsored by Animal Planet, Dogsters, The New York Times, Loews Hotels, and Sherpa, will take place on Saturday, July 30 in Shubert Alley (located between 44th and 45th Streets, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue). The festivities begin at 3:30 p.m.; celebrity presentations of pets from citywide animal shelters will take place between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. (In the event of rain, BROADWAY BARKS 7! will be rescheduled for Sunday, July 31 at 12 noon.)

Back by "pawpular" demand, BROADWAY BARKS 7! will help many of New York City's shelter animals find permanent homes by informing New Yorkers about the plight of the thousands of "homeless" dogs and cats in the metropolitan area. Last year's BROADWAY BARKS! attracted an audience of more than 6,000 theater fans, pet owners, and animal lovers, and featured the participation of more than 24 animal shelters from the New York City area.

"Mary and I are delighted that BROADWAY BARKS! continues to be such a popular event, and we are deeply moved by the enthusiasm and support from the legions of fans and animal lovers who attend the event every year," says Peters, who adopted her dogs, Kramer and Stella, from the ASPCA and ACC.

Moore adds, "We are especially pleased to report that the euthanasia rate in New York has dropped 26 percent since 2003. That's a very encouraging statistic. It means that people are rescuing thousands of New York City area dogs and cats each year by spaying and neutering or by adopting pets through shelters participating in events such as BROADWAY BARKS!"

Many of today's hottest Broadway stars will join Moore and Peters for this special benefit, presenting the animals for adoption. Celebrity presenters include Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza); Rue McClanahan (Wicked); Maureen McGovern (Little Women); Denis O'Hare (Sweet Charity); Brad Oscar (The Producers); David Hyde Pierce and Christopher Sieber (Spamalot); Joanna Gleason and Gregory Jbara (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels); Harvey Fierstein and Andrea Martin (Fiddler on the Roof); Erin Dilly, Marc Kudisch, and Jan Maxwell (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang); Mireille Enos, David Harbour, and Bill Irwin (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?); Billy Crudup, Jeff Goldblum, and Madeline Martin (The Pillowman); Cheyenne Jackson and Alix Korey (All Shook Up); Ryan Duncan (Altar Boyz); Ginifer King, Delta Burke, Christine Ebersole, Marsha Mason and Frances Sternhagen (Steel Magnolias); Jesse Tyler Ferguson (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee); John Glover (The Paris Letter); Michael Mulheren (La Cage Aux Folles); Jeffrey Tambor (Glengarry Glen Ross); Shuler Hensley (The Great American Trailer Park Musical); and Crystal Hunt from the popular CBS-TV daytime drama Guiding Light.

BROADWAY BARKS 7! will feature a sampling of potential pets from several New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies, including A Cause for Paws, ACC, Adopt A Boxer Rescue, Animal Haven, ASPCA, BARC Shelter, Bide-A-Wee, Bobby and the Strays, City Critters, The Humane Society of New York, Husky House, JRTCA Russell Rescue, Kitty Kind, Long Island Greyhound Transfer, Loving Touch, Manhattan Valley Cat Rescue, Metropolitan Maltese Rescue, Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, Pet-I-Care, PLUTO Rescue, Siamese Rescue, SICAW, Stray From the Heart, and The Tigger Foundation. Representatives from these organizations will be on hand to offer educational information on spaying and neutering.

BROADWAY BARKS 7! will also feature an auction of celebrity-autographed memorabilia. Additional auction merchandise will be available via the Internet by logging on to www.eBay.com and using the key words Broadway Barks. Proceeds from the auction and other donations received during the day will benefit the shelters and organizations attending BROADWAY BARKS 7!
