Adobe Theater to Present NICKEL AND DIMED, Begin. 9/12

When a middle-aged scientist goes undercover to experience low paying jobs she learns about 'Not Getting by in America'. Working as a maid, a waitress, and an 'associate' at Mall Mart led Barbara Ehrenreich to her best-selling book Nickel and Dimed and then to the play of that name by Joan Holden. Starting September 12th, The Adobe Theater will present this dramatic work, directed by Brian Hansen. A number of actors will portray a wide variety of characters as Colleen McLure (most recently seen in Lend Me A Tenor at The Adobe and in Juno And The Paycock at The Vortex) playing 'Barbara' attempts to make ends meet while phoning her boyfriend to assure him she is managing okay (even when she isn't). The Trews Return to the US for August Tour, 8/10 - 8/27

Canada's The Trews released their self-titled, Nettwerk debut digitally in April and supported it by heading down from the Great White North for a run of shows in the States. The quartet follows up with a jaunt through the mid-west starting August 10th in Michigan. Two of the shows (Cincinnati & Louisville) are make-ups for postponed gigs when singer Colin McDonald came down with a broncial infection and the band had to cancel their 2nd and 3rd performances ever in 1000+ gigs over 12 years. Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Artistic Director Gemma Bodinetz will direct Sean O'Casey's Juno and the Paycock in a major co-production with Bristol Old Vic. The cast will be led by Niamh Cusack as the eponymous Juno and Des McAleer as her husband Jack Boyle. The production is at Bristol Old Vic from 5 to 27 September before moving to the Liverpool Playhouse from 1 to 18 October. (more...)

The Washington National Opera Announces the Roster for the 13th Season of Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program

Washington National Opera (WNO) today announced the roster of emerging artists and renowned vocal coaches engaged for the 13th season of its Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program. Under the leadership of program director Michael Heaston, the Domingo- Cafritz Young Artist Program continues to increase its number of performances throughout the season and expand its training regimen to include mentorship by its returning Artist in Residence, the acclaimed American soprano Deborah Voigt. Additional faculty members include voice teachers Diana Soviero and William Stone; guest vocal coaches Be?ne?dicte Jourdois, Kathleen Kelly, and Danielle Orlando; career consultants Ken Benson and Matthew Epstein; and guest drama coaches Peter Kazaras and Alan Paul, among others.
