Thou Cream-Faced Loon! Top 10 Shakespearean Insults in Honor of SOMETHING ROTTEN!Thou Cream-Faced Loon! Top 10 Shakespearean Insults in Honor of SOMETHING ROTTEN!
by Sally Henry - Mar 30, 2015

Any theatre fan (and/or 9th grade literature student) will tell you that William Shakespeare had a true gift for coining beautiful phrases such as 'Shall I compare thee to a summer's day,' or 'It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.' But what are debatably better than his love poetry are his insults. (more...)

BWW Reviews: The Original Auto-Biographical Musical FRUIT FLY: THE MUSICAL is a Hilarious and Endearing Ode to FriendshipBWW Reviews: The Original Auto-Biographical Musical FRUIT FLY: THE MUSICAL is a Hilarious and Endearing Ode to Friendship
by Jill Schafer - Mar 30, 2015

Have you ever imagined your life as a musical? Lifelong BFFs Max and Sheena have done more than imagine it - they've written it! And since in addition to being best friends, Max Wojtanowicz and Sheena Janson are both super talented music-theater artists* (you may know Max from the Children's Theatre and Sheena from numerous production with Mu Performing Arts), the result is a musical that's not only fun and entertaining, but also brutally honest and from the heart. FRUIT FLY: THE MUSICAL began as a hit Fringe show in 2012 and has had several workshops and readings since, and is now a full-fledged show at Illusion Theater. Each time I see it, it has a bit more depth, but always retains the beautiful, poignant, hilarious, endearing heart that is this real life friendship. (more...)

by Matt Tamanini - Mar 24, 2015

Launching in conjunction with the Orlando International Fringe Festival is THE REPUBLIC. This unique, one-of-a-kind production is the brain-child of Sarah Elger; with experience working for Broadway producers, as a dancer, set designer, architect, theme park creative, and a self-described 'video game nerd,' Elger is merging all of her passions into a theatrical experience that she hope speaks to a segment of the Central Florida community that is looking for a new form of entertainment. Berkeley Rep to Stage the West Coast Premiere of HEAD OF PASSES, 4/10-5/24Berkeley Rep to Stage the West Coast Premiere of HEAD OF PASSES, 4/10-5/24
by BWW News Desk - Mar 11, 2015

Berkeley Repertory Theatre proudly welcomes MacArthur "Genius" Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney for the West Coast premiere of Head of Passes, a poignant and poetic story about the journey of family and faith, trial and tribulation. In a dilapidated house near the ever-shifting mouth of the Mississippi, Shelah's family gathers on a stormy night for her birthday -- bringing ghosts and secrets of the past with them. As her roof buckles under the weight of the rain, Shelah's convictions begin to wash away, leaving her to excavate the truths buried below. Directed by Tina Landau, the riveting Head of Passes comes to the Bay Area straight from its critically lauded world premiere in Chicago. Head of Passes is a co-production with the Public Theater in New York. It begins previews on Berkeley Rep's intimate Thrust Stage on Friday, April 10, opens on Friday, April 17, and runs through Sunday, May 24, 2015. Press night for Head of Passes will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015. (more...)

by Amanda Finn - Apr 26, 2015

Even Madison's most dedicated theatrical hipsters have heard of [title of show] - the Broadway musical that effectively parodied a true story as well as the strenuous process of creating art. The show follows the plights of 'two nobodies in New York' as they attempt to create an award winning musical in three weeks for the 2004 New York Musical Theatre Festival. Admittedly exploiting their friends for the sake of creative enterprise, Jeff and Hunter hatch their ideas and watch as they begin to fly. (more...)
