Regent's Park Open Air Theatre has confirmed lead casting for Hobson's Choice and the Gershwins' Porgy and Bess. Mark Benton will play Henry Hobson in Hobson's Choice, with Jodie McNee as his daughter Maggie. Rufus Bonds Jr and Nicola Hughes play the title roles in Porgy and Bess with Phillip Boykin re-creating his Tony Award nominated performance as Crown, and Sharon D Clarke as Mariah. (more...)

PORGY AND BESS, ALL MY SONS, TWELFTH NIGHT & More Set for Regent's Park Open Air Theatre in 2014

Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, where the 2012 Shakespeare in the Park production of Into the Woods originated, has today announced a season of five productions for 2014. Opening the season on May 15 (running until June 7), Artistic Director Timothy Sheader will direct Arthur Miller's 20th Century classic play All My Sons. Harold Brighouse's Hobson's Choice will then run from June 15 (until July 12), directed by Nadia Fall, alongside a production of Twelfth Night re-imagined for everyone aged six and over. This production of Shakespeare's comedy for younger audiences will be directed by Max Webster and will also be supported by in-school workshops devised by the Young Shakespeare Company for years 3-6. Regent's Park Open Air Theatre has announced today that Robert Sean Leonard will play Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird, the first production of the 2013 season. The Tony award-winning American actor is best known for playing Dr. James Wilson in the Fox television series House and Neil Perry in the 1989 movie Dead Poets Society. Having frequently performed on and off Broadway since 1986, To Kill a Mockingbird will mark Robert's return to the London stage for the first time in 22 years. The Magistrate - Filmed live at Great Britain's National Theatre, broadcast by National Theatre Live, and presented by L.A. Theatre Works and the James Bridges Theater: Academy Award nominee and Tony Award-winner John Lithgow (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Shrek, 3rd Rock from the Sun) takes the title role in Arthur Wing Pinero's uproarious Victorian farce, directed by Olivier Award-winner Timothy Sheader. With his dubious air and a developed taste for smoking, gambling, alcohol and women, it's hard to believe Cis Farringdon is only fourteen. And that's because he isn't. Agatha, his mother, dropped five years from her true age-and his-when she married amiable magistrate Posket. When her deception looks set to be revealed, it sparks a series of hilarious indignities and outrageous mishaps. In a similar vein to the National Theatre's smash-hit comedies, She Stoops to Conquer, London Assurance and One Man, Two Guvnors, The Magistrate sis sure to have audiences around the world doubled up with laughter.
