Playwrights Horizons presents Rancho Viejo, the world premiere of a new play by Dan LeFranc (The Big Meal at Playwrights, Sixty Miles to Silver Lake, In the Labyrinth) and directed by three-time Obie Award winner Daniel Aukin (Placebo, This at Playwrights; Fool For Love; Bad Jews; 4000 Miles; [sic]). The production opened on December 6 at the company's Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street) and will play through Friday, December 23. The Fred Ebb Foundation has announced that its 2016 donation to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS will total $1.675 million dollars, bringing the foundation's total contribution to BC/EFA to $13.325 million since it began 12 years ago. The foundation, which is funded by royalties from the late award-winning lyricist Fred Ebb's vast catalogue of work, makes an annual donation to BC/EFA. (more...)

Bernard, Trustee) in association with the Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) will present the twelfth annual Fred Ebb Award for aspiring musical theatre songwriters to Thomas Mizer and Curtis Moore, tonight from 6-8pm at a by-invitation-only ceremony in the Penthouse Lounge of The American Airlines Theater.  The Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra will present a free concert at the Blaisdell Concert Hall on Wednesday, December 7 at 7:30 pm. This performance is not only intended to remember those who served and died in the attack, but to salute the remaining survivors and all who have served in the armed forces. Maestro Rob Fisher, Tony and Grammy-recognized for his work with the New York Philharmonic and the New York Shakespeare Festival will lead the HSO in a patriotic program that includes Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man" and John Williams' "Hymn to the Fallen" from the film Saving Private Ryan.  (more...)
