The deVaron Lerangis Family Band (singer/composer/pianist Tina deVaron, and her sons, singer/composer/producer Nick Lerangis of the band, Evening Darling, and teacher/musician/historian Joe Lerangis of the American School of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia) will perform one show at Caffe Vivaldi on July 9th from 7-8pm. The Broadway Community worships at the altar of Michael McElroy and, pretty soon, so will the world. The Broadway veteran, with many shows under his belt, founded the Broadway Inspirational Voices in 1994 and, last night, photographer and friend Walter McBride and I were invited to a private home, where an awe-inspiring event transpired. We witnessed the birth of PARLOR NIGHT, something that ladies Di Ana Pisarri and Schele Williams had dreamed of for some time. (more...)

The New York Musical Theatre Festival and Grep Cooper Productions, LLC LLC have announced that Virginia Woodruff (Violet, Leap of Faith, The Color Purple, All Shook Up, Smokey Joe's Cafe), Cheryl A. Freeman (The Who's Tommy , Disney's Hercules), Tyler Hardwick , Anthony Chatmon II , Miche Braden and Darilyn Castillo have joined the cast of ACAPPELLA. Rounding out the company are Katrina R. Dideriksen, Gavyn Pickens, Emily Goglia, Rachel Gavaletz, Janelle McDermoth, Darryl Williams, Alex Koceja and Garrett Turner. (more...)

The American Theatre Wing and the Village Voice just presented the winners of the 60th Annual OBIE Awards. The Public Theater's Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda (including special citations for Andy Blankenbuehler, Thomas Kail, and Alex Lacamoire) received the OBIE Award for Best New American Theatre Work, which is accompanied by a $1,000 check. The Signature Theatre's Founding Artistic Director James Houghton received the OBIE Award for Sustained Achievement. The Awards were hosted by OBIE Award-winning actress Lea DeLaria ('Orange is the New Black'). Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (LCPA) raised a record $10.4 million last night at its Spring Gala honoring Hearst Corporation, as announced by Katherine Farley, chair of Lincoln Center. The event, attended by more than 500 people, lauded Hearst President and CEO Steven R. Swartz, and Executive Vice-chairman and former CEO, Frank A. Bennack, Jr. for the enormous and varied contributions to Lincoln Center made by them as well as by their company. Both men serve on Lincoln Center's Board of Directors; Mr. Bennack was chairman of Lincoln Center from 2005 through 2010, and Mr. Swartz is currently chairman of Lincoln Center's Corporate Fund.
