Angelina Jolie began her professional screen career with Cyborg 2 (1993), followed by roles in Without Evidence (1995), Hackers (1995), Love Is All There Is (1996), Mojave Moon (1996), Foxfire (1996), Playing God (1997), and the CBS miniseries True Women (1997). She also appeared in music videos for artists including Lenny Kravitz, The Lemonheads, Meat Loaf, the Rolling Stones, and Antonello Venditti.

Jolie's breakthrough came with the television films George Wallace (1997) and Gia (1998), followed by roles in Hell's Kitchen (1998), Playing by Heart (1998), Pushing Tin (1999), The Bone Collector (1999), Girl, Interrupted (1999), and Gone in 60 Seconds (2000). She achieved international stardom as Lara Croft in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and reprised the role in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life (2003). Other film credits during this period include Original Sin (2001), Life or Something Like It (2002), Beyond Borders (2003), Taking Lives (2004), Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004), Shark Tale (2004), and Alexander (2004).

In 2005, Jolie starred opposite Brad Pitt in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. She followed with roles in The Good Shepherd (2006), A Mighty Heart (2007), Beowulf (2007), Wanted (2008), Changeling (2008), Kung Fu Panda (2008), Salt (2010), and The Tourist (2010). She also reprised her voice role as Tigress in the Kung Fu Panda film series.

Jolie expanded into directing with the documentary A Place in Time (2007), followed by her feature directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey (2011). She also directed, wrote, and/or produced Unbroken (2014), By the Sea (2015), in which she also starred, First They Killed My Father (2017), and Without Blood (2024). She returned to acting in Maleficent (2014) and its sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019), and appeared in Come Away (2020), Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021), Eternals (2021), and Maria (2024). In 2024, she also served as a producer on the Broadway musical The Outsiders, which won the Tony Award for Best Musical.
