The Kentucky Opera, in celebration of renowned composer Giuseppe Verdi's 200th birthday, will perform the musically stunning yet rarely produced opera SIMON BOCCANEGRA in continuation of their THE BROWN-FORMAN 2013/14 SEASON. This unique operatic event will take place at the Brown Theatre on Friday, November 15th at 8pm and Sunday, November 17th at 2pm.

An opera with prologue and three acts, SIMON BOCCANEGRA will be sung in Italian, with translations above the stage. While this is one of Verdi's least famous operas, it is widely considered to have the most beautiful music he has ever written. Originally set in the 14th century, the Kentucky Opera will transport the timeless themes of love, rebellion, passion, rage, and remorse and begin this production's prologue in Genoa, Italy in 1918 during World War I, with Act I set 25 years later in the midst of World War II.

This production of SIMON BOCCANEGRA, sponsored by Stock Yards Bank and Trust and the Guild of Kentucky Opera, will be a company premiere. Single tickets start at $31 and are available by calling 502.584.7777 or by visiting KYOpera.org.

Simon Boccanegra is given great power and influence but loses the love of his life and must deal with deadly politics before finding his long lost daughter and redemption. Even though time runs out for Simon, he manages a last moment with his daughter and gives his blessing to her new husband as his successor. Originally set in the 14th century, in this production the prologue is set in Genoa, Italy in 1918 at the end of World War I with Act I 25 years later in the midst of World War II.
