UPDATE: Shia LaBeouf Appears in Court Today for CABARET Meltdown; Plea Deal In the Works

Shia LaBeouf appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court this morning, as a result of being charged with two counts of disorderly conduct and one count of criminal trespassing which occured during a June performance of Roundabout's Cabaret at New York's Studio 54.

As BWW reported in June, the actor was smoking inside the theater and engaging in other disruptive behavior during the performance. When he was asked to leave, he refused and then threatened police officers and people on the sidewalk outside.

The actor appeared at a Manhattan courtroom following the incident and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to The New York Post, the 28-year-old, who arrived to court in a black Lincoln SUV, walked straight over to Assistant District Attorney Alyssa Russell upon entering the courtroom and shook her hand.

When the case was called, Russell told the judge, "The defense council and I are discussing a possible resolution in this case... at this time there is still no offer or recommendation." Judge Ann Scherzer agreed on one more adjournment for the case and ordered all parties to return to court on September 10.

LaBeouf departed the production of Broadway's ORPHANS last season, following creative differences. He was replaced by Ben Foster, who co-starred with Alec Baldwin and Tom Sturridge.

Earlier in 2014, LaBeouf joined and then quickly departed ROCK THE KASBAH, a comedy film being directed by Barry Levinson. In February, he noted that he was 'retiring from public life because of attacks against his artistic integrity.'

LaBeouf began his career in the Disney Channel series Even Stevens, for which he received a Daytime Emmy Award, and with his film debut in Holes (2003), based on the novel of the same name by Louis Sachar. In 2004, he made his directorial debut with the short film Let's Love Hate and later directed and shot the music video for "I Never Knew You" by rapper Cage.

In 2007, LaBeouf starred as the lead in the commercially successful films, Disturbia, Transformers and Surf's Up. His other films include Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008),Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009), Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010), and Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011), followed by Lars von Trier's "Nymphomaniac."
