Melbourne Festival heads Northside in 2014 for Melbourne-premiere season of MKA's The Trouble with Harry by Lachlan Philpott from today 18 October to Sunday 9 November, 2014.

The festival's flagship independent Australian theatre offering, The Trouble with Harry tells the true-crime story of Eugenia Falleni, who passed as a man in early 1900s in Sydney.

Living as Harry Crawford, Falleni was convicted of the murder of his spouse in 1920, a crime that captured the imaginations of Australians nation-wide: How did Falleni pass as a man during years of marriage? How could his female partner not have known? What went on in the bedroom? Why did it end in murder?

Written by multi-award winning writer Lachlan Philpott, the piece responds imaginatively to persistent and sensationalist speculation about the Falleni case and offers the audience a very human side of the story with focus on the shifting dynamics in domestic relationships.

Founded in 2010, MKA: Theatre of New Writing is Australia's premiere international new writing theatre company with a particular interest in South-east Asian works. A champion for new performance writers, the company opens its doors not just to playwrights and poets, but designers, choreographers, composers, installation artists, film editors, even people with no theatre connection or experience whatsoever.
