Three Day Hangover presents The HAMLET Project: Summer in the City, a Shakespeare drinking theatrical event performed in a bar with audience participation and booze. Beth Gardiner directs a cast of nine, including Greg Beam*, Jose Cagigal, Alan Dronek, David Hudson*, Paul Kite*, Kim McKean*, Lloyd Mulvey*, Emily Trask*, and Erika Weinheimer. Six performances will be staged at Harley's Smokeshack, 356 West 44th Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10036 on Sundays, Mondays & Tuesdays at 8pm beginning tonight, August 11, and continuing through August 20, 2013. *Member AEA. The HAMLET Project: Summer in the City is a Shakespeare drinking theatrical event. (Yes, you read that right.) Iambic pentameter becomes even more awesome after a couple of drinks in a collision of tragedy and comedy, classic text and pop culture, high-minded ideals and low-brow antics that occurs when you perform Shakespeare's play in a bar with booze. Full scale audience participation includes drinking cues, voting on the fate of the characters and one audience member even gets to play Polonius. What does a super sad Danish prince have to do with the dog days of summer in Manhattan? You'll have to show up to find out.

Three Day Hangover is stoked to be bringing BOOZY SHAKESPEARE to midtown. The HAMLET Project was born in Los Angeles in 2011, consistently delivering raucous joy and a hearty buzz to sold-out crowds at St. Nick's Pub in Downtown LA. The Midwest will never be the same after a 2012 run in Chicago. In late March of 2013, The HAMLET Project invaded New York, exploding Shakespeare all over every square inch of The Exley, an excellent little bar in Williamsburg. Now, Three Day Hangover is bringing it back to NYC as part of a four month repertory series (August-November) with a drinking extravaganza version of Romeo & Juliet. The rivalry between the Montagues and Capulets will never be the same as opposing family/audience members face off in flip cup. This epic drunken Shakespearean showdown will have its world premiere in mid September.

Beth Gardiner (director) is a freelance theater-maker based in New York City. She got her B.A. in Theater from Wesleyan University and her M.F.A. in Directing at UC-Irvine where she co-founded and co-produced World Premiere Weekend, a festival of new work that mobilized scores of students, faculty members and alums to premiere nearly forty new plays on campus. After graduating, Beth moved to New York where she, or her furniture at least, has been ever since. She's been fortunate to work with some great companies as a director, dramaturg and assistant director, including Milwaukee Rep, Milwaukee Shakespeare, Bialystock and Bloom, Chicago's Bailywick Theater, Utah Shakespeare, Summer Repertory Theater and South Coast Rep. In New York, Beth created and runs the Plays & Pints reading series and directed theHAMLETproject:NewYork, both at The Exley in Brooklyn. Some favorite directing projects include A Midsummer Night's Dream with Fugitive Kind Theatre in Los Angeles and the world premiere of The Jesus Fund, which will open in January 2014 at Burning Coal Theatre in North Carolina.www.Beth-Gardiner.com
