In The Jonathan Channel's new special series "For The Record:" Thomas Z. Shepard and Julian Fleisher explore the making of five seminal Broadway cast albums.

Listeners will hear how these albums were made, and what it was like working with some of Broadway's biggest stars. Plus the show will answer the question everyone is dying to ask: what exactly does a record producer do, anyway?

Twelve-time Grammy Award winner Thomas Z. Shepard has produced hundreds of albums in his career including many of Stephen Sondheim's original cast recordings, The Star Wars Trilogy with John Williams and the Boston Pops, and recordings by Barbra Streisand, Leonard Bernstein, Leontyne Price, and Betty Buckley.

Julian Fleisher is host of WNYC Studio's The Naked American Songbook, a songwriter, performer, and record producer who's shaped albums by Molly Ringwald, Ana Gasteyer, and Kiki and Herb.
