EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND Star and Broadway Vet Doris Roberts Dies at 90

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that Doris Roberts, best known for her Emmy-winning role on the sitcom EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND, passed away Sunday, April 17, in Los Angeles. She was 90 years old.

Roberts also had a vibrant theatre career. She last appeared onstage in 2009's LOVE, LOS, AND WHAT I WORE off-Broadway and BYE BYE BIRDIE at Encores! in 2004. Her most recent Broadway outing was in 1978's CHEATERS.

Before that, she tread the New York boards in BAD HABITS, THE SECRET AFFAIRS OF MILDRED WILD, LAST OF THE RED HOT LOVERS, THE NATURAL LOOK, UNDER THE WEATHER, MALCOLM, MARATHON '33, THE DESK SET and THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE.

In addition to her portrayal of Raymond Barone's mother, 'Marie Barone' in EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND from 1996 to 2005, Roberts appeared on TV in the '70s and '80s in ANGIE, BARNEY MILLER, MAGGIE, ROMANCE THEATRE and REMINGTON STEELE, and in the '90s in THE BOYS and DREAM ON.

More recently, the actress had been seen on the small screen in episodes of LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT, MELISSA & JOEY, THE MIDDLE, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, GREY'S ANATOMY and more.
