Swing, bop and shake your way to Glen Street Theatre this August for Jazz in the Glen, a full-day festival of jazz in all its diverse and wonderful forms.

Kick off your Saturday morning with Live in the Glen, an exciting free event showcasing the talent of young musicians from the Northern Beaches performing on an outdoor stage.

At 2.30pm, John Buchanan presents The Story of Ragtime, celebrating an era that began at the end of the 19th century to the Tin Pan Alley composers of the 1920s. The Dizzy Fingers Ragtime Band will trace the story of one of the great periods of American music before The Northside Jazz Band play their infectious renditions of Dixieland music with A Night in New Orleans in Sorlies Bistro at 5pm.

Rounding off the festivities is A Tribute to Louis Armstrong presented by Geoff Power and his band. The first half of the show pays tribute to Armstrong's early career with songs from King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, Hot Five, Hot Seven and Louis with the Luis Russell Orchestra. The second half of the show pays homage to his later years with the All-Stars and his big hits, Hello Dolly, A Kiss to Build a Dream On, Blueberry Hill and What A Wonderful World.

Glen Street Theatre Director Margot Woodward is excited to present the 3rd annual Jazz in the Glen festival, which has become a great success. "Whatever your taste, the festival offers a broad range of jazz music to suit all ages and styles," she said.

"With four different shows, featuring both internationally renowned artists and young local talent, there is something for everyone."
