Roundabout Theatre Company presented its annual 2015 Spring Gala "There is Nothing Like a Dame" last night, March 2, 2015 in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria. The evening was a celebration of Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe winner Helen Mirren, who was presented with The Jason Robards Award for Excellence in Theatre.

According to Variety, Alec Baldwin, who introduced the performance segment of the evening, told the crowd, "Helen Mirren can do a lot of things. She can act. She speaks French. She has a tattoo. But there's one thing she cannot do. Helen Mirren cannot sing."

He went on to introduce the night's award-winning performers, including Alan Cumming, Kelli O'Hara, Victor Garber and Laura Benanti, "to sing all the songs she can't." The performance featured a medley of Mirren's favorite tunes, including "Single Ladies" and "Fat Bottomed Girl."

Jennifer Garner, an understudy in a Broadway production of "Month in the Country," starring Mirren, then presented the actresss with the award. In her acceptance speech, Mirren dedicated the honor to Alan Howard, the English stage actor who died last month. She also praised Roundabout artistic director Todd Haimes saying, "If Todd were English he'd be Sir Todd Haimes. In fact, I'm going to dress up as the Queen and knight him myself."

She went on to joke, "There's a different between American and English theater actors. American actors learn their lines."

Dame Helen Mirren made her Broadway debut in 1995 at Roundabout Theatre Company in a Tony-nominated performance in A Month in the Country. She is currently back on Broadway this season to star in The Audience.
