The Bickey family invested $2.7 million into renovating the historic building, according to the theatre's current owner, Matt Bickey. The Raleigh was opened in 2012. The stage has since hosted shows produced by The WV Collective and Theatre West Virginia.

Housed on the campus of Shepherd University, CATF has earned a reputation as one of the country's top festivals for new plays. Producing Director Ed Herendeen, who founded the professional theater and lead the organization to its well-respected status, announced his retirement effective this December.

In 1921, Logan County, West Virginia, coal miners were non-union and worked long hours in dangerous conditions, paid for their own mining supplies, lived in houses owned by the coal companies and were paid per mined ton of coal in the coal companies' own currency called 'script' which could only be spent at the coal companies' owned stores.

This summer, they produced two playcasts: Sheepdog by Kevin Artigue and The House of the Negro Insane by Terence Anthony.
