Ford's Theatre has partnered with Bread for the City to create a donation drive around its run of "A Christmas Carol." During the curtain calls for performances of "A Christmas Carol" on December 1-6, 2009, the cast of "A Christmas Carol" will collect monetary donations on behalf of the Washington-based Bread for the City. Patrons can also make donations through the Ford's Theatre Box Office; in exchange for a $10 contribution to Bread for the City, patrons can receive $5 off a single ticket to a performance of "A Christmas Carol" from December 29, 2009, through January 3, 2010. All donation checks should be made payable to "Bread for the City." This offer is available only at the Ford's Theatre Box Office, only on performances between December 29 and January 3, and cannot be combined with other special offers or applied to previously purchased tickets.

"A Christmas Carol" plays at Ford's Theatre November 23, 2009-January 3, 2010.

"It is truly fitting that we reflect the messages of charity, hope and love found in Dickens's ‘A Christmas Carol' by addressing the needs within our own communities," said Director of Ford's Theatre Society Paul Tetreault. "Ford's Theatre is pleased to partner with Bread for the City this holiday season and to give what we can to support Washington neighborhoods and families."

Bread for the City provides vulnerable residents of Washington, D.C., with comprehensive services including food, clothing, medical care, legal and social services in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. Through the efforts of more than 1,500 volunteers and the contribution of thousands of community members, Bread for the City serves more than 10,000 people monthly at no cost to those in need. Under the leadership of Director Paul R. Tetreault, Ford's Theatre has been recognized for the superior quality of its artistic programming. From the nationally acclaimed "Big River" to the world premiere of "The Heavens Are Hung In Black," Ford's Theatre has begun to make its mark on American theatre.
