Hard Rubber Orchestra presents World Premieres by Anna Webber, Matt Choboter and Noah Franche-Nolan at SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts

We are thrilled to announce Canada’s jazz powerhouse, the Hard Rubber Orchestra’s concert of new work by three Canadian composers: New York-based Anna Webber, Copenhagen-based Matt Choboter and Vancouver resident Noah Franche-Nolan.

Webber (Canada/US, b.1984) is one of the brightest stars in the global jazz and new music realm. In 2024, she received the Herb Alpert Award in the Arts, a Chamber Music America New Jazz Works commission, and was voted top of both the tenor saxophone and flute "Rising Star" categories in the Downbeat Critic's Poll. Matt Choboter (Canada/Denmark, b.1990) is a visionary composer and pianist whose music has been described as “ephemeral and beautifully fragile”. Rounding out this outstanding program is the brilliant young Juno-nominated Vancouver composer and pianist Noah Franche-Nolan (Canada, b.1997).

Formed by artistic director John Korsrud in 1990, the Hard Rubber Orchestra has consistently been one of Canada's most active and unpredictable ensembles of creative music, presenting concerts of original music by some of Canada's most exciting composers, performed by Vancouver's finest musicians. The orchestra has recorded five albums, toured across Canada and to Europe. In 2005, they were the recipients of the Alcan Arts Award, the largest arts award in Canada for the creation of new work. They have produced several large theatrical works such as operas, avant ice shows, and arts raves and commissioned nearly 100 new works by composers such as Kenny Wheeler, John Hollenbeck, Darcy James Argue, Christine Jensen, Peggy Lee, Marianne Trudel, and Brad Turner.

The Hard Rubber Orchestra concert takes place on the traditional and unceded territory of the xmθkym (Musqueam) and Skwxwu7mesh Uxwumixw (Squamish), slilwta (Tsleil-Waututh)
