Today, Tuesday 27 November is #GivingTuesday, an online initiative which embraces season of goodwill and raises awareness of good causes. After the success of last year's Giving Tuesday campaign, Sheffield Theatres is once again taking to social media to highlight its work as a registered charity both on stage and in the community.

Claire Murray, Communications & Fundraising Director commented:

'Last year #GivingTuesday gave us a great opportunity to profile our work with the community; we saw a huge spike in donations for our projects for people living with Dementia. As a registered charity, donations are vital to support us to make our work accessible to everyone. Only 1% of charitable giving in the UK goes to arts charities. We recognise what a rare and visionary thing it is to donate to the arts and we want to use this Giving Tuesday raise awareness of the impact of our work on the communities of Sheffield.'

Sheffield Theatres' Dementia Friendly programme includes free monthly Tea Dances with live music and an annual Dementia Friendly performance with accompanying singing workshops. This year's performance is The Wizard of Oz on Wednesday 10 January at 2.00pm. Tickets can be booked by calling the Box Office on 0114 249 6000.

Alongside its Dementia Friendly programme, in the last year Sheffield Theatres has also offered free tickets to young people in Sheffield studying drama and performing arts at GCSE or A Level, through its IGNITE scheme. The scheme will continue to inspire young people by offering them the chance to see cutting-edge, home-grown theatre for free throughout 2018.

Sheffield Theatres' new season is now on sale and the company is asking customers to make a donation to support its charitable work and enable it to continue to make a difference to local people's lives. Donations can also be made direct online by visiting https://www.sheffieldtheatres.co.uk/donate-support/donate-now.
