Erasing Borders Dance Festival Kicks Off Next Month

The Indo-American Arts Council announces the always eagerly anticipated dance performances, this year including special events to celebrate the 75th anniversary of India's Independence Day, August 15.  The celebration will feature two live performances, August 6 & 7 at the Ailey Citigroup Theatre, and a virtual August 8th streaming with artists from India, Canada, and the U.S.

Set in a magical fairy kingdom beneath the roots of a great tree, this beloved classic, filled with magic and poetry, tells the enchanting tale of Princess Aurora from her fateful birth to her triumphant wedding. This fall the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) celebrates the work and career of the great French actress Isabelle Adjani with the CinéSalon series Magnetic Gaze: Isabelle Adjani on Screen. Running each Tuesday from September 10 to October 29, this series honors one of France's greatest actresses, lauded for the unparalleled intensity and sensuality she brought to roles that inspired multiple generations of directors. Adjani, who began her acting career on the stage at the Comédie-Française, will also be performing at FIAF in Opening Night(Sept 12–14), which will be presented as part of the Crossing the Line Festival.

French Institute Alliance Francaise Presents 'Burning Bright: New French Filmmakers'

This spring through summer the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) presents Burning Bright: New French Filmmakers as part of its popular CinéSalon series. In what has become an annual highlight of the FIAF calendar, the 2019 edition of Burning Bright showcases recent noteworthy films by nine exciting young filmmakers. The screenings include seven US and NY premieres with introductions by figures from the film industry, as well as appearances from directors. It is organized by FIAF film curator Delphine Selles-Alvarez with Dana Kurylyk and runs every Tuesday from May 7 to June 25.

The new documentary film 'Ground War,' presented by Beyond Pesticides, will have its New York City premiere screening on Saturday, April 6, 2019, 7:30pm at Florence Gould Hall, 55 East 59thStreet, New York, NY. The film is a moving depiction of a son's quest for answers about his father's cancer—which takes him into the world of doctors, scientists, pesticide regulators, victims of pesticide poisoning, activists, and land managers. The issue is exposure to pesticides used to manage lawns and playing fields and the father's exposure as an avid golfer. The son, who is the filmmaker, finds others on the same search for answers because of harm or death of a loved one, then finds a solution in the work of activists and organic land managers.
FIAF Presents US Theatrical Releases of Two New French Films

Building on a legacy of introducing treasures of Francophone cinema to New York audiences, the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) will present first-run US theatrical releases of two new French films this spring: Eva Husson's Girls of the Sun, a riveting story of a female battalion fighting against ISIS (April 12–14 and 19–21); and the thriller My Sonby writer/director Christian Carion (Joyeux Noel) on May 10–12 and 17–19.
