Six female playwrights bring their original stories to our virtual stage.
Featured plays and playwrights are Chasing Cinderella by Dana Hall ILLINOIS, Divine Truth by Debra A. Cole KANSAS, Duress by Angela M. Sarabia FLORIDA, Four Bedrooms by Marj O'Neill-Butler FLORIDA, Searching for Abuelo by Gretchen Suárez-Peña FLORIDA, and She Tunes the Violin by Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend ILLINOIS.

"Despite losing our physical space, we refuse to let the vibrant spirit of Voices of Women Theatre Festival be extinguished. By going fully digital, we overcome the limitations imposed by circumstances and expand our reach to a global audience. We are excited to bring these powerful women's stories to the forefront and continue our mission of opening minds and hearts and inspiring, entertaining, and sparking meaningful conversations. This global event will allow us to reach even more audiences, connect with these diverse artists, and continue amplifying the voices of women around the entire world."
With a tagline of EmpowerHER. InspirHER. AmplifiHER., the festival gives women a safe and inclusive place to tell their stories and inspire audiences worldwide. This year, the festival will feature live-in-theatre 10-minute self-produced productions, three live-in-theatre 60-minute performances selected and produced by Powerstories, and 60-minute digital submissions.
Powerstories Theatre's 24th season, focusing on the theme, 'Critical Social Issues Take Center Stage.' This season promises a thought-provoking lineup of plays that delve into pressing topics like book banning, anti-Semitism, and suicide awareness.
Started during the pandemic, The Voices of Women Theatre Festival has become a cornerstone of Powerstories Theatre's mission to amplify the stories of women playwrights. The first event without their physical theatre space due to developers replacing it with high-rise apartments, Powerstories Theatre has proven that the show will go on.
Dr. Barbara McClintock was an autistic trailblazer, a female pioneer who broke boundaries with her maize (corn) DNA research. Despite bullying from male colleagues, she persisted in her studies. She triumphed in a male-dominated field, eventually earning a Nobel prize and changing the understanding of human genetics and DNA.
Special Offer: So Much is Happening at Powerstories Theatre
The 2022 Voices of Women Theatre Festival features two plays live in the theatre and live-streamed worldwide and six 48-hour view-on-demand productions.
A hybrid of live-in-theatre productions and live-streamed prerecorded performances on Powerstories' virtual stage, The Voices of Women Theatre Festival spotlights local Tampa Bay and North American playwrights to a global audience.
In collaboration with Thrϋ-Line Theatrical Production Company, Powerstories is currently seeking submissions from female playwrights around the world of any age and level of experience. The submission deadline is July 15, 2021. Ten selected productions will be performed live in the theatre and live-streamed worldwide or produced virtually online in the Festival's debut on October 6-17, 2021.
Powerstories Theatre, in collaboration with Outcast Theatre Collective, is excited to introduce the inaugural The Voices of Truth Theatre Festival on March 10-28, 2021, in our film-friendly enhanced theatre. For three weeks, we will showcase real-life a?" humorous, heartbreaking, eye-opening, conversation-starting plays and stories a?" performed safely in the theatre, and using the latest technology, live-streamed.
Throughout the month local playwrights and poets will showcase their original female-centric works. The lineup consists of: • 'SheVolution III' - March 7 and 8, 8pm • 'Twirling in the Woods - Nature Poem and Stories' - March 9, 8 pm • 'The Lady from Havana' - Mar 10, 8pm • 'It's About Time' - March 15, and 21, 3pm • 'C'est La Vie' - March 16, 2pm and 7pm • 'NINE' - March 17, 3pm • 'Shattering the Silence' - March 22, 8pm • 'The ThinkFast Experiment' - March 24, 6pm
