From the company that brought you Tell Me On A Sunday comes the celebrated one-woman play SHIRLEY VALENTINE written by WILLY RUSSELL and starring REGINA MALAN. This endearing, laugh-out-loud comedy won RUSSELL his third Olivier Award after Educating Rita and Blood Brothers. REGINA has most recently appeared as Elsie in The Yeoman of the Guard and Emma in Tell Me On A Sunday.

Trailblazing SHIRLEY has changed women's lives ever since the 42-year-old working-class Liverpudlian housewife first appeared, talking to the wall while making eggs and chips for dinner. Bored, wondering what happened to her youth and childhood dreams, her initially enriching marriage has become a dull routine. Her family treats her more like a housekeeper, and she regularly finds herself alone as her husband Joe has become emotionally distant. “It's a good job we're not having soup, or else I'd put me head in it and drown meself,” she tells the kitchen wall.

When her flamboyant friend Jane wins a trip for two to Greece, SHIRLEY uncharacteristically puts herself first and accepts Jane's invitation to join her in the land of olive trees, tavernas, and sun-drenched beaches.

Much has changed for women since SHIRLEY VALENTINE was first performed, but her poignant question, “Why do you get all this life, when it can’t be used?” remains as pertinent today as ever. Amid life's clutter, bustle, and responsibility, everyone deserves their day in the sun.

Regina Malan is a Stellenbosch University BMus alumnus. After performing in operas such as 'Le Nozze di Figaro' and 'Dido and Aeneas', she went on to star in the plays 'Macbeth', Noel Coward’s 'Design for Living' and 'Jane Eyre', as well the musicals 'The Full Monty' and 'Shadows in Red Light' and the Musical Opera, 'Calling Us Home'. Her other credits include 'Public City', 'Because It’s Okay', 'Not Just Musicals' and 'Othello: A Women’s Story', which she co-directed. 'A Boarding Line - A Musical Extravaganza', 'The Secret Garden', and G&S Cape Town’s 'Trial by Jury' followed. Regina directed 'The Waiting Game' for the Cape Town Theatre Company, was the Musical Director for 'The Great Gatsby' at the Star Theatre, and Co-Director of 'Hairspray' and 'Matilda' at the Baxter Theatre. She most recently directed 'Fame' at the Star Theatre Earlier this year, Regina appeared as Elsie in 'The Yeomen of the Guard' at Artscape and as 'Emma' in Tell Me On A Sunday at the Homecoming Centre.

The founder of The Endellion Theatre Company, Jonathan Walker Kane, has directed prolifically over the past 3 decades, touring with a wealth of productions, both plays and musicals, in the UK. His repertoire includes 'The Browning Version', David Hare’s 'South Downs', 'A Man For All Seasons', 'Talking Heads', 'Whose Life Is It Anyway?', 'Taken At Midnight' and 'Shirley Valentine'. His musical productions include 'The Boy Friend', 'South Pacific', 'The King and I', 'Evita', 'Oliver', 'Tell Me On A Sunday', 'Fiddler On The Roof', 'Jesus Christ Superstar', 'Man Of La Mancha', 'The Sound of Music', 'Follies', 'A Little Night Music', 'Aspects Of Love' and 'My Fair Lady'. Jonathan has also directed for The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the Manchester College, and for other theatre companies at the popular Sheffield Lyceum. The Andrew Lloyd Webber hit 'Tell Me On A Sunday' was his first production in South Africa.
