Jacob's Pillow announces today that Executive Director Ella Baff will soon present the fourth annual Jacob's Pillow Dance Award to Bill T. Jones, acclaimed choreographer, co-founder, and artistic director of Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, Tony Award winner for Spring Awakening, and director of the current Broadway hit FELA! The Jacob's Pillow Dance Award honors outstanding visionary artists and carries a prize of $25,000, one of the largest cash awards in the dance industry, to be used by the choreographer to enhance their artistry in any way they choose.

Diamond's play tells a story of a group of black girls known to Claudia MacTreer (played by ART regular Alicia Haymer in a starring role) in the fall of 1941, 'the year the marigolds didn't bloom.' Claudia comes to believe the marigolds didn't bloom because of the life and tragic events of her best friend, Pecola Breedlove (portrayed by Demetria Granberry, in her professional acting debut). Pecola, who is subjected to mocking because of both her dark skin and a suspected incestuous relationship with her father, spends her time longing for blue eyes, which to a dark-skinned black girl coming of age in a turbulent racial era, represent beauty and self-worth.

Avery Brooks, particularly in his TV parts, often plays a smooth customer. Some roles exhibit this more than others, though as Alfred in 'Let There Be Love,' he's a Scrooge-before-the-Ghosts...but that doesn't mean he isn't smooth. This natural actor's comfort in every role he inhabits translates into a wonderful night of theater for the audience.

Metropolitan Playhouse hosts Another Sky, the theater's fifth annual Living Literature Festival of performances inspired by the lives and works of American authors. Another Sky is a collection of nine new works by artists and companies from across the US taking their inspiration from women of the long 19th Century.

Amun Ra Theatre's jeff obafemi carr came off the roof and hit the ground running, with the fifth anniversary production of the company's Black Nativity by Langston Hughes as the first offering in the 2010 season. Black Nativity will feature the children of the Amun Ra Performing Arts Academy, alongside some of the stars of previous Black Nativity productions of the past five years. Black Nativity runs December 18-20 at the Shamblin Theatre on the campus of David Lipscomb University. This marks the first year the show will be produced on the Lipscomb campus, and the university is a major sponsor of the event. Lipscomb staff and students will have the opportunity to work with ART's professional crew, which includes nationally recognized lighting designer Scott Leathers.

Appearing on The Joyce stage for the first time since 1996, the company will present the New York premiere of the critically acclaimed Serenade / The Proposition, one of three pieces created by Bill T. Jones in celebration of the bicentennial of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. Serenade / The Proposition was commissioned by The Joyce and had its world premiere at the American Dance Festival in 2008.
