 La Jolla Playhouse has announced the first five productions of its 2023/2024 season, including the world-premiere musical The Untitled Unauthorized Hunter S. Thompson Musical, music and lyrics by Joe Iconis, book by Joe Iconis and Gregory S. Moss, directed by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley.

La Jolla Playhouse has announced the dates and projects for its 2022 DNA New Work Series, running December 1 – 12 in the Playhouse’s Rao and Padma Makineni Play Development Center.

Maybe the Holmdel Theatre should consider changing its name to Arendelle, the kingdom in Disney’s popular Frozen franchise. Patti Murin, better known to some as Princess Anna, will take the stage at 8 p.m. Saturday, November 5 as part of the theater’s Broadway in the Barn series.

La Jolla Playhouse has announced the cast and creative team for its production of As You Like It, by William Shakespeare, co-directed by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley, the Rich Family Artistic Director of La Jolla Playhouse, and Helen Hayes Award winner Will Davis. It will run November 15 – December 11.

Following a successful run of CVRep's second play of the season, Life X 3, the playhouse continues its season of Hopes, Dreams, and Expectations 2021-2022 with Closer Than Ever, a musical revue directed by Ron Celona, with music by David Shire, lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr., and musical direction by Scott Storr. Roundabout Theatre Company has announced the tenth annual Roundabout Underground Reading Series, a four-night event that includes nightly readings of new works written by emerging artists. The Reading Series will feature new works by Liz Appel, Noah Diaz, Daria Miyeko Marinelli and York Walker. The Roundabout Underground Reading Series is January 18 - 21, 2022 at 5:00PM at the Five Angels Theater (789 Tenth Avenue).

So what does a cabaret director do? Today in my ongoing series, THERE ARE NO ONE-PERSON SHOWS, we will find out from one of the busiest cabaret directors in New York, Marc Tumminelli. Marc is the founder of Broadway Workshop, which provides year-round, professional-level classes and workshops for kids 8-19 with some of the finest artists working on Broadway and in the West End. He is also the founder of Project Broadway, a non-profit that provides scholarship opportunities to young performers.

On this day in 2007, the musical adaptation of the cult classic film Xanadu opened at Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre. 

This summer, Duluth Playhouse presents the award-winning hit Broadway musical XANADU, skating into the NorShor Theatre on July 15th and running through August 1st. This zany satire, based on the 1980 cult film starring Olivia Newton-John, features all the chart-topping songs from the film's soundtrack including “Magic,” “I'm Alive,” and 'Xanadu.'

Today's Theater Stories features the Hayes Theater! Learn about Broadway's smallest theater, which has presented shows including Rock of Ages, Lobby Hero, What the Constitution Means to Me, Grand Horizons and many more!

The criteria are that these shows have been nominated for Best Musical from the 3rd Tony Awards (the ceremony that started the Best Musical category) in 1949 to the nominations of what will now be the 74th Tony Awards in 2021. I will be determining their signs based upon their Broadway premiere date. With those rules in mind, here we go!
