The Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry and the UConn Puppet Arts Program will present the 2018 UConn Fall Puppet Slam on Friday, Sept. 28, 2018 at 8 p.m. in UConn's von der Mehden Recital Hall located at 875 Coventry Rd, Storrs, Conn. 06269. The UConn Fall Puppet Slam will feature short works by professional puppeteers and performers from around New England, including Hilary Chaplain, Kali Therrien, Mindy Escobar-Leanse, and Anatar Marmol-Gagne, as well as new works by Puppet Arts students and puppet animation films by students from UConn's School of Fine Arts.  (more...)

Full Casting Announced For The National Theatre's Production Of NINE NIGHT At The Trafalgar Studios

The National Theatre have today announced the full cast for Nine Night, Natasha Gordon's critically acclaimed play which will transfer from the National Theatre to the Trafalgar Studios on 1 December 2018 (press night 6 December) in a co-production with Trafalgar Theatre Productions. Natasha Gordon will take the role of Lorraine in her debut play, for which she has recently been nominated for the Best Writer Award in The Stage newspaper's 'Debut Awards'. She is joined by Oliver Alvin-Wilson (Robert), Michelle Greenidge (Trudy), also nominated in the Stage Awards for Best West End Debut, Hattie Ladbury (Sophie), Rebekah Murrell (Anita) and Cecilia Noble (Aunt Maggie) who return to their celebrated NT roles, and Karl Collins (Uncle Vince) who completes the West End cast. Madeleine Potter and Donald Sage Mackay complete the cast for the forthcoming West End Premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winner Sam Shepard's ferociously funny, modern classic, True West. They will join the previously announced Kit Harington - renowned for his leading role in the internationally acclaimed series Game of Thrones - and Johnny Flynn - star of the widely celebrated film Beast and US TV series Genius, and who received rave reviews for his performance in the New York transfer of Hangmen, in the first UK production of Shepard's work since his death last summer. The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) today announces the appointment of Simon Godwin as its next Artistic Director. Godwin, currently the Associate Director at the National Theatre of Great Britain (NT), previously served as Associate Director of London's Royal Court Theatre and Associate Director at the Bristol Old Vic in the United Kingdom. Twelfth Night takes place on the mythical, magical island of Illyria, where almost anything can happen in Director Jennifer LeBlanc's fresh and comedic version of this classic. A shipwreck has stranded two survivors here, Sebastian and Viola, brother and sister, although each is unaware of the survival of the other. The sister, Viola, dresses as a man to protect herself in this strange environment, frustrating Duke Orsino who finds himself falling in love. Great comic confusion ensues involving some of Shakespeare's greatest comic characters, including Sir Andrew Aguecheek, Sir Toby Belch, jester-like Feste and the imposing Malvolio. Will true love win out? Will siblings be reunited? Not easily. And therein lies our tale. (more...)

American Bard Theater Company presents the New York City premiere of You Wouldn't Expect, a play written by Marilynn Barner Anselmi examining the staggering truths about the coercive influence of the government-sponsored eugenics program and its direct focus on poverty and race. Cezar Williams directs a cast of eight, including Cherie Danielle, Adiagha Faizah, Carl Fisk, Erin Gilbreth*, Ross G.
