Based on the novel by Henry Fielding

Women canít keep their hands off Tom Jones, a man of unknown parentage but undeniable charm. Tomís heart belongs to the virtuous Sophia Western, but when he finds himself the center of female attention and all manner of romantic complication, everything seems to stand between the two. Former Producing Director Jon Jory returns with his rollicking adaptation of Henry Fieldingís classic comic tale of scandal, sword fighting and the bewildering power of love.

BWW Review: 110 IN THE SHADE at BoHo Theatre
by Rachel Weinberg - Nov 6, 2018

BoHo Theatre's production of Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones's 110 IN THE SHADE makes the central, fierce, independent female character of Lizzie Curry take center stage. This is particularly true because Neala Barron's expert performance anchors every moment. Barron mines her character for the maximum amount of meaning and layers she can find: she makes us feel Lizzie's strong-willed, intelligent presence while also conveying a deep sense of longing to find a husband and start a family. 110 IN THE SHADE strikes a chord precisely because these two facets of Lizzie's character are not presented as irreconcilable: rather, Lizzie is simultaneously pragmatic and ambitious in her desires. With direction by outgoing Artistic Director Peter Marston Sullivan and music direction by Ellen Morris, Barron also thrives in each musical number backed by a 3-piece orchestra. (more...)

BWW Review: Village's I DO! I DO! a Show about Commitment, That Lacks Commitment
by Jay Irwin - Jan 18, 2019

As a self-proclaimed musical theater geek, I'll admit to some gaps in my geekdom and Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt's 1966 musical "I Do! I Do!" falls squarely into that gap. Before going to see the current production at Village Theatre I knew nothing about it. I don't even think I've heard the errant song from it off one of my many compilation albums. And now having seen it I'm more than happy to let it fall back into obscurity. With its paper thin, almost conflict free storyline, and songs that simply peter out into an air of forgetfulness, the only thing that saved the evening were the two people performing the show, Kendra Kassebaum and Peter Saide, but even they couldn't save this one.
