It isn't easy to stage Shakespeare's Henry V (1599). It's a big play), with a large complement of characters. Structurally, it is partly built around a siege and a battle, each of which occurs onstage. There are scenes and pageantry in two royal courts. No wonder, then, the directors tend to cut the lines, scenes, and dramatis personae to what they deem manageable proportions. Given all these challenges, the theatrical company taking on Henry V must be at the top of its game. And this time Baltimore Shakespeare Factory is not. It's an honorable failure, but BSF is simply overwhelmed.

Commissioned by The Space, this film of Cyprus Avenue, by David Ireland, mixes live capture of performance from the iconic Royal Court Theatre stage production with location shooting in Belfast.

Songhoy Blues today announce their latest EP, Meet Me in the City (October 18 on Yellow Vinyl)—their first new music since the critically acclaimed album Résistance, which Rolling Stone called one of the best albums of 2017. They also share two versions of the EP's track “Time to Go Home,” one mixed by Blake Mills (Grammy-nominated producer of Alabama Shakes' Sound & Color, John Legend's Darkness and Light, and Perfume Genius' No Shape) and the other by David Ferguson (known for his sound engineering work with 'Cowboy' Jack Clement and on Johnny Cash's American Recordings).  The track, with lyrics written by Will Oldham (the music is by Songhoy Blues andMatt Sweeney and produced by Sweeney), appears on the EP alongside the title track written by Junior Kimbrough (with additional lyrics by Songhoy Blues and produced by Matt Sweeney), and a cover of Fela Kuti's “Shakara,” featuring Femi Kuti. Songhoy Blues will embark on a North American tour beginning in September and extending through the fall.

Corkscrew Theater Festival, which runs July 10-August 3, inaugurates its Corkscrew Downstairs series of workshop productions this summer in the lower level theater at the Paradise Factory (64 East 4th Street, Manhattan). The four projects all take classic texts as a starting point, including A Doll's House, Twelfth Night, the poetry of Walt Whitman, and Leslie Feinberg's 1993 novel Stone Butch Blues.
