Ethel Merman, one of the American theater's greatest musical stars, died in 1984, yet she is still revered by those who saw her perform on Broadway. Few, however, know about her as a person. Two of her closest friends, Tony Cointreau and James Russo, appear on THEATER TALK to share their warm and intimate memories of a woman who they reveal to be quite unlike the brassy characters she portrayed.

Writers in Performance is a 12-week poetry, writing and performance workshop culminating in public presentations. Throughout the course of the workshop, ten talented actors, playwrights, poets and storytellers have explored writing exercises, theater games, improvisation, movement techniques, and ensemble work in a safe, creative environment on the topic of "Anticipation." Writers in Performance participants are diverse by design; not only in ethnicity, but by age, and experience as well, mixing professionals with students.

Writers in Performance is a 12-week writing and performance workshop hosted by BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, culminating in two public presentations.  Throughout the course of the workshop, talented actors, playwrights, poets and storytellers have explored writing exercises, theater games, improvisation, movement techniques, and ensemble work in a safe, creative environment. This season, the theme and title of the Writers in Performance show is "Home." Writers in Performance participants are diverse by design; not only in ethnicity, but by age, and experience as well, mixing professionals with students.  On Friday, December 2 & Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 7:30PM, the troupe will showcase the monologues and short scenes they have been crafting.  We are proud to have members of the BMCC student community in the production (denoted below). Join us to experience this dynamic exchange between the written word and the art of performance!  Tickets are FREE, with a suggested donation of $10, and can be purchased in person at Ticketing Services in the lobby of 199 Chambers St. or by calling 212.220.1460.

People.com reports that Queen Elizabeth will have a private screening of the upcoming film MY WEEK WITH MARILYN. The screening will take place at Buckingham Palace. The film takes place in the summer of 1956, when actress Marilyn Monroe, played in the film by Michelle Williams, was making a the movie The Prince and the Show Girl in the United Kingdom. It was during this brief period that the actress met with the Queen. Sources tell People.com that the monarch is curious to see how the meeting is depicted on the big screen.
