Galas aren't always the easiest of watches; endless pas de deux with bravado at the forefront of proceedings. That said - some rosters are too good to pass on…hence why I attended the Ballet Icons Gala 2025 at the London Coliseum on March 9th.

In today's pop culture canon, most folks of a certain age have some sort of connection with Mean Girls. The original movie and its all star cast have left an indelible mark on American, if not global, culture. On Wednesdays we wear pink. On October 3rd, we ask what day it is. There's a 30% chance it's already raining. These are just a small handful of memorable moments from a movie that influenced multiple generations. Its longevity still continues to prove itself. It's no wonder that it ultimately made its way to Broadway in musical form. It is also the latest production to take the stage at DCPA's Buell Theatre.

Shucked is a completely original musical set in the fictional Cob County. It tells an audacious farm-to-fable tale about the one thing Americans everywhere can't get enough of: corn. This project was partially derived from one of book writer Robert Horn's earlier projects, 2015's Moonshine: That Hee Haw Musical. Originally, the show was scheduled for a run in late 2020 at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. Yet it was subsequently cancelled due to the COVID-19.

THRILL ME - THE LEOPOLD AND LOEB STORY is the recounting of a true crime, but it's really about the why of it all. Add to that the layer of telling the story through song, and you have a piece of theatre that is both whimsical and chilling.

Grease was first staged in 1971, with music, lyrics, and a book by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. It had its debut on Broadway in 1972 until it was eventually adapted into a movie starring John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John in 1978. This play and its consequent movie were a cultural icon, with songs that persist through time and are deeply rooted in modern pop culture. And for the first time, in 2025, it was performed in Jakarta, Indonesia.
