As part of its centennial celebrations, San Francisco Opera released the first installment of Streaming the First Century.

Japan Society presents Part of the Okinawa in Focus series and the Globus Film Series, Visions of Okinawa: Cinematic Reflections. The screenings of these films are set for May 13th through June 3rd. In-theater screenings are set for May 13th through May 21st. Virtual screenings will run from May 14th through June 3rd. “The Most Anticipated Production of 2022” (BroadwayWorld Readers’ Poll, 2021) just announced their cast. The Boys in the Band, Mart Crowley’s American classic, will begin previews June 16 at the historic Fred Rogers Studio at WQED in an exciting new production by PICT Classic Theatre.

Ford’s Theatre Society and the National Park Service announce the Petersen House (the house where Abraham Lincoln died) and the Aftermath Exhibits at the Center for Education and Leadership will reopen to the public for visitation on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.

Prospect Theater Company has announced two special one-night-only concert performances of new musical theater work at NYC’s Symphony Space (2537 Broadway at 95th Street). On Tuesday, October 26 at 7:30pm the company presents REIGNITE, an evening of new songs from works-in-process by an exciting lineup of emerging and established writers.

On Saturday, October 2nd, the Sharon Playhouse will present a star-studded and glittering salute to EGOT recipient and Broadway’s Uber Maestro, the great Jonathan Tunick. Concord Theatricals has announced that a one-hour version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s international musical phenomenon CATS has been released to schools and children’s theaters in North America.

South Street Seaport Museum has announced FREE tours of the 1908 lightship Ambrose every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from August 6, 2021 through October 10, 2021. The ship will run four tours each day, departing at 11:30am, 2:30pm, 3:30pm and 4:00pm from Pier 16.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat will host nine weeklong in-person residencies for 23 musical theatre writers of nine new musicals between June 27 and August 29.  Writers include Tony-nominee Beth Malone, Emily Saliers of Indigo Girls; Jonathan Larson winners Avi Amon, Sara Cooper, Ty Defoe, and Anna Jacobs and more.

The criteria are that these shows have been nominated for Best Musical from the 3rd Tony Awards (the ceremony that started the Best Musical category) in 1949 to the nominations of what will now be the 74th Tony Awards in 2021. I will be determining their signs based upon their Broadway premiere date. With those rules in mind, here we go!

To honor and celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in the new year, The Duluth Playhouse will present a virtual staged reading of The Mountaintop, written by Katori Hall from January 15-18, 2021.
