Mint Theater (Jonathan Bank, Producing Artistic Director) will present the American Premiere of The Mountains Look Different by Micheal mac Liammoir, hailed as 'a courageous play in which there is no beating about the bush' by The Christian Science Monitor. Performances will begin May 30th and continue through July 14th only at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street). Opening Night is set for June 19th.

Filming has commenced on the fourth season of The Last Kingdom for Netflix, the hit historical drama based on Bernard Cornwell's best-selling novel series The Saxon Stories.

Modeled after the highly acclaimed retrospective of Tito Puente in 2017, the Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture will honor the late iconic singer and bandleader Francisco Machito Grillo (1908-1984) and his Orchestra (the Afro-Cubans) in a 3-day celebration May 2-4 on the campus of Hostos Community College, 450 Grand Concourse (at 149th Street), in the Bronx. Machito & the Impact of the Afro-Cubans at 80 examines the Orchestra's influence on a variety of Latin musical styles, including Latin jazz that affected the music of Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Stan Kenton and others.

PEN America today announces the full lineup of events for the 2019 PEN World Voices Festival: Open Secrets (May 6-12), focusing on the dissolving boundary between the public and the private in the literary, cultural, social, and political realms.

Shudder, AMC Networks' premium streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural, today announced initial casting for its upcoming horror anthology series, Creepshow, based on the iconic 1982 film written by Stephen King and directed by George A. Romero. Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog), Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul), and Tobin Bell (Saw) will star in the Stephen King story 'Gray Matter,' adapted by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi (The Commuter) and directed by series showrunner Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead).

The greater Binghamton area's only professional, non-profit Equity theatre, Chenango River Theatre, will open their 2019 season on May 24 with a new play that is currently the most frequently produced play in the country, A Doll's House, Part 2.  Following that production is the World Premiere of a new comedy about an Irish Catholic family in 1973, Incident at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.  The Immigrant, based on the true story of the author's own family who became the only Jewish family in town when they immigrated to Hamilton, Texas in 1909, runs in the late summer slot.  The season finale will be The Sea Horse, an unusual and volatile love story set in a dumpy waterfront bar of the same name. 

The Music Business Association (Music Biz) today announces this year's inductees for its Music Business Hall of Fame, including the late Sir George Martin, who will be inducted by his son Giles Martin. This year's honorees will be recognized during the Music Biz 2019 Awards & Hall of Fame Dinner -- sponsored by BuzzAngle Music, City National Bank, Cracker Barrel, Jammber, and TiVo -- as part of Music Biz's Annual Conference on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 pm.

Performing as the Leading Player in Short North Stage's production of PIPPIN, Knicole faces a whole new set of challenges, including singing upside down from a trapeze six feet off the ground. In 1973, tennis champion Arthur Ashe traveled to Johannesburg to compete in the South African Open amidst the oppression of an apartheid-based government. He had applied for a visa to play in the tournament three times prior but was denied. His presence at the 1973 event sparked some outrage but was the catalyst for change, not only for Ashe as an activist but also for the South African people. This story is the impetus for Hannah Benitez's new play, ASHE IN JOHANNESBURG. Burning Coal Theater commissioned Benitez to write the play, and it is a compelling story to tell. However, the show, which opened this weekend, needs further development before it achieves the same level of polish and flair as other historical dramas like David Hare's STUFF HAPPENS, which opened Burning Coal's current season.
