This Holiday Season Centenary Stage Company is set to seize the day with their family holiday spectacular production of Disney's Newsies The Musical November 24 through December 10 in the Lackland Performing Arts Center.

Award winning writer Theresa Rebeck will workshop a new musical, The Two Orphans, at Texas State University on October 28 as part of the Harrison/Bowman New Works Commission.

This high-energy musical combines Broadway-caliber entertainment with the story and tunes from the beloved cult-classic movie. Based on the Newsboys Strike of 1899, the narrative follows Jack Kelly and his crew of ragtag newsboys who become unlikely heroes when they stand up for what's right.

Centenary Stage Company's critically acclaimed Young Performers Workshop returns with their annual Winter Festival of Shows running December 9 through December 17. These talented young thespians between the ages of 8 and 18 fill the Little Theater with musical theatre favorites including The Pajama Game, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and A Class Act. Young Performers will also be featured in Centenary Stage Company's Family Holiday Spectacular Disney's Newsies The Musical which runs November 24 through December 10 in the Sitnik Theatre of the Lackland Performing Arts Center.

Great Music at St. Bart's, the concert series produced by the Mid-Manhattan Performing Arts Foundation (MMPAF), for the past seven years has presented music in St. Bartholomew's Church, a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of New York located in the heart of midtown Manhattan. Chanhassen Dinner Theatres (CDT) is thrilled to announce it will produce the Minnesota Regional Premiere of Disney's NEWSIES on the Main Stage. The production will open to a week of preview performances on March 2, 2018 as part of Chanhassen Dinner Theatres 50th Anniversary celebration. The official opening night is Friday, March 9.

Baryshnikov Arts Center's (BAC) Fall 2017 music presentations include BAC Salon: Telemann, Farrin, Wolfe + Prokofiev featuring the New York premiere of a work by Julia Wolfe (October 5 and 6); violin virtuoso Gidon Kremer performing Mieczyslaw Weinberg's 24 Preludes, Op. 100 (October 31 and November 1); and BAC Salon: Pauline Oliveros featuring IONE and International Contemporary Ensemble (November 28).

The acclaimed Stepinac Theatre, White Plains, NY, continues to make news as a producer of award-winning musicals. The latest big headline is that Stepinac was one of only five high schools in the U.S (and the only one in New York State!) that was granted permission by Walt Disney Theatricals to produce Newsies, the 2012 Tony-winning musical.

With a classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, two popular Disney titles, a classic play, and a regional premiere of a contemporary Broadway hit, The Media Theatre's 2017-18 season has something for everyone. The original film version of NEWSIES wasn't exactly a blockbuster when it was released in 1992, but it developed a substantial cult following, especially as kids and adults alike discovered its many charms on cable and DVD. Actually, the fact that it wasn't a huge hit initially is why it seems like such a great, and logical, choice to rework for Broadway, where its transformation resulted in Tony Awards for best score (music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman) and choreography back in 2012. Perhaps this is proof that the material might have been better served as a stage production from the start. As The MUNY's current, and final, presentation of the season it packs an entertaining wallop that brings the season to a close on a delightfully high note. Audiences certainly will find plenty to enjoy, and I cannot recommend this show highly enough!
