Chanhassen Dinner Theatres (CDT) is thrilled to announce it will produce the Minnesota Regional Premiere of Disney's NEWSIES on the Main Stage. The production will open to a week of preview performances on March 2, 2018 as part of Chanhassen Dinner Theatres 50th Anniversary celebration. The official opening night is Friday, March 9.

This exciting musical took Broadway by storm when it opened in 2012. With astounding choreography, unforgettable songs and compelling storytelling, Disney's NEWSIES is a high-energy musical that will delight audiences of all ages. Inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City, Jack Kelly hawks the headlines day-in and day-out with countless other newsboys ("newsies") trying to save enough money to make his dreams a reality. New York World publisher, Joseph Pulitzer, realizes he can maximize profits by raising the price of the "papes" and does so without a word to the "newsies." Upon seeing Pulitzer's greed, the newsboys protest and declare a strike against the publishing giants. Realizing it will take more than his friends to make a difference, Jack rallies all the "newsies" in New York City. Through courage, determination and friendship the "newsies" are ready to seize the day and take a stand.

The very popular musical was first an original Disney film (1992). Six songs were added for the stage adaptation. The unforgettable score was written by Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas).

President and Artistic Director Michael Brindisi is enthusiastic about Disney's NEWSIES, "We always get so excited to bring our audiences the newer productions as they become available to the regional theatre market. As is the case with 'Newsies,' Chanhassen is the first theatre to get the rights to produce it in the region."

Brindisi continued, "It's an appealing show; people will want to experience it. We can't wait to put our mark on it and make it thrilling for our audiences."

Disney's NEWSIES will run through September 29, 2018. Tickets are on sale beginning Tuesday, October 10th. For times and prices for Disney's NEWSIES and more, go to ChanhassenDT.com or call Chanhassen Dinner Theatres' box office at 952-934-1525.
