Photo Flash: Today's Headline: Meet the Cast of Disney's NEWSIES at Orlando REP

By:
Orlando Repertory Theatre (Orlando REP) will open its 2017 - 2018 season with the Drama Desk and Tony Award-winning Disney's Newsies The Musical (September 5 - October 22, 2017). This production is presented by Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs, Disney, and supporting sponsor Lean Green DAD. BroadwayWorld has a sneak peek at the cast in character below!

They delivered the papers, until they made the headlines. Based on the Disney film, the story of Jack Kelly and his gang is based on the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City, where the powerless found the courage to challenge the powerful. When publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises the prices of the paper at the newsboys' expense, Jack rallies the group to fight back. With help from spunky upstart reporter Katherine Plumber, the whole world finds out what happens when "the little guys" stand up and seize the day!

After opening in 2012 and following a two-year run on Broadway with over 1,000 performances, Disney's Newsies enjoyed a blockbuster national tour that concluded in 2016. Orlando REP is the first theatre in the southeastern United States - and among the first theatres in the country - to subsequently produce Disney's Newsies.

Disney's Newsies is based on the Disney film written by Bob Tzudiker and Noni White, with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, book by Harvey Fierstein, and was originally produced on Broadway by Disney Theatrical Productions. Disney's Newsies The Musical is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

The cast stars Anthony Pyatt, Jr. as Jack Kelley, Meredith Pughe as Katherine Plumber, Daniel Tracht as Davey, Dustin Batchelor as Crutchie, Camila Camilo as Medda Larkin, and Ralph Daniel as Joseph Pulitzer, with Kory Adams, Bob Brandenburg, Colby Connor, Giancarlos Coris, Ryan Corridoni, A.J. DeLeon, Damon Dennin, Cameron Elliott, Alyssa Flowers, Brady Foley, Michael Lopez, Jeremy Marchena, Justin Mousseau, Hannah Beth Neal, Stephen Pugh, Dustin Russell, Frank Siano, Erick Sureda, and Joel Swanson. Disney's Newsies is directed Steve Mackinnon, with choreography by Spencer Morrow, scenic design by Brian Dudkiewicz , costume design by Wes Jenkins, lighting design by George Jackson, sound design by Anthony Narciso, props design by Tara Kromer, and stage management by Tiffany Lyn Meadows.

Disney's Newsies plays Saturdays and Sundays from September 5 through October 22, 2017 at 1:30pm and 6pm. Tickets are $25 for adults, $18 for students, seniors (55+), and members of the military with valid ID, and $15 for youth (ages 3 to 17). All performances of Disney's Newsies The Musical take place at Orlando Repertory Theatre, located at 1001 East Princeton Street, Orlando, FL 32803. Tickets may be purchased online, over the phone, or at the Box Office. Visit www.orlandorep.com or call 407-896-7365 for more information.
