Side Show - 2006 - Off-Broadway

Re-Imagined Musical

Side Show

November 5 - December 15

Music by Henry Krieger

Book and Lyrics by Bill Russell

Directed by Bill Condon

Meant to be Together

Based on the true story of conjoined twins Violet and Daisy Hilton who became stars during the Depression, Side Show is a moving portrait of two women joined at the hip whose extraordinary bondage brings them fame but denies them love. The original 1997 Broadway production of Side Show was directed by Robert Longbottom and received four Tony® nominations, including a shared nomination for co-stars Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner, the only time in Tony history where two people were co-nominated for the Best Actress Award.

Alice Ripley’s gift as a performer has always been to lead with vulnerability. She doesn’t so much sing songs as she inhabits them. There is always a rich inner life going on. She’s one of the most authentic performers you’re likely to see because she's one of the most authentic humans you’re likely to find.

This original, complexly conceived, all-singing, all-dancing musical revue starring MSMT’s Fellowship Performers is packed with so much talent, energy and emotion that it will – quite simply - blow you away! Directed by Curt Dale Clark, this collection of musical theatre standards and contemporary works is skillfully woven together to capture a kaleidoscope of shifting moods, styles, and ensemble as well as solo moments. Not only has Clark constructed a powerful and poignant narrative, but he has cast each number with a fresh eye that gives vitality to the whole. His ability to nurture, challenge, and stretch the talent with which he works transforms the performance from a routine revue to a dazzling master class.
