Arena Stage announces the presentation of the fourth annual Beth Newburger Schwartz Award to National Public Radio's Nina Totenberg, with actor and performer Kathleen Turner headlining the 2019 Arena Stage Annual Gala. Last night, the 13th Annual NBCUniversal SHORT FILM FESTIVAL, which celebrates diverse stories while finding the next generation of storytellers, honored its six finalist films and filmmakers with a finale screening and awards ceremony at the Directors Guild of America in Hollywood.

Joined by Chicago Symphony Orchestra cellist Richard Hirschl, New Philharmonic, will perform two concerts featuring works by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff. The concerts, conducted by Maestro Kirk Muspratt, will be held at the McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd.; Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. A free MAC Chat will precede each concert.   The concert program is as follows:

For three performances only, renowned director/choreographer Stephen Mear has brought his own semi-staged version of the classic musical Guys and Dolls to the Royal Albert Hall. The Royal Philharmonic Concert orchestra bring Frank Loesser's much-loved score to life, along with a cast that includes Adrian Lester (Sky Masterson), Lara Pulver (Sarah Brown), Meow Meow (Miss Adelaide), Jason Manford (Nathan Detroit), Clive Rowe (Nicely Nicely Johnson), Joe Stilgoe (Benny Southstreet), and Sharon D Clarke (General Cartwright). Whilst they're not presenting the entire show, all of the musical numbers are intact and any gaps in the story are covered by narrator Stephen Mangan.

The three-hour special will present a series of vignettes that will feature singers who have paved the way for new generations. Through key performances of the evening, the show will also focus on those artists who are reaching new heights and creating an impact in today's music world not just by themselves but through innovative collaborations. In addition, in an unprecedented move, the entire show will be hosted by a formidable group of women, as Aracely Arambula, Becky G, Gloria Trevi, Leslie Grace and Roselyn Sanchez take center stage as the official emcees of the coveted awards show that will broadcast live on Thursday October 25, 2018 at 8pm/7c, preceded by the one-hour carpet pre-show 'La Alfombra de Latin AMAs' at 7pm/6c. Managing Director Donna M. Carbone announced that the Burt Reynolds Institute will honor veterans with a production of her play Shell of a Man November 15-16-17, 2018. Shell of a Man is based on the life of an actual Vietnam veteran and focuses on the effects of his 45-plus year battle with PTSD. Her goal is to personalize this much talked about but barely understood condition in order to raise awareness of the need for better healthcare for our men and women in uniform.
