In many of America’s cities, theatre history exists in plain sight. Whether inside a museum or on a street corner, fascinating pieces of theatre lore exist, waiting to be discovered by an interested passerby. Here are ten inspiring displays of theatre history I saw up close and in person this summer, from New York City to Washington D.C. and beyond. You can visit them too—and many are free to see! 

Hale Centre Theatre - Arizona has announced its new season of plays. The season features Broadway musicals and comedies. Producer David Dietlein notes, 'Our goal is to ensure that each visit is engaging and memorable, and I believe this season will deliver on that.' The Majestic Theatre will dim its lights tonight, December 6, in memory of longtime The Phantom of the Opera production stage manager Craig Jacobs, who passed away November 22. Jacobs worked for The Phantom of the Opera from 1997 through 2014.

Town Hall Theater will present THT Artistic Director Doug Anderson's “A History of the American Musical” four-class series, beginning Monday, March 8th.

Continuing its tradition of Powerhouse Musicals and Outrageous Comedies, Hale Centre Theatre has unveiled its 2019-2020 season of eight musicals and three comedies starting this August.

Annette Warren, the "secret" singing voice of Ava Gardner and Lucille Ball in such films as the MGM classic "Show Boat," and a nightclub, TV and recording star whose career spans the past 70 years, will return to the Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood on Tuesday, Feb. 19 with a the premiere performance of her new show, Professor Bob and the Old Broad, joined by accompanist Bob Remstein. 

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the full company for Ruth and Augustus Goetz's melodrama, The Heiress, suggested by the Henry James novel, Washington Square. After growing up subjected to her father's disinterest and strong resentment, a young woman in the 1850s discovers what love is in her journey towards independence, growth and strength, without an impactful female role model in her life. Directed by Deputy Artistic Director Seema Sueko, The Heiress runs February 8 - March 10, 2019 in the Fichandler Stage.

Indio's Desert Theatreworks continues their strong 2018/19 season with a stylish production of Agatha Christie's MURDER ON THE NILE. Smartly dressed characters with distinct, larger-than-life personalities, come together in the early 1940's onboard an Egyptian riverboat. One of them gets shot through the head, and the remainder of the show deals with the characters figuring out whodunnit.

A 1930s comedy for Christmas, Jeannie by rediscovered female playwright Aimee Stuart will open at the Finborough Theatre for a four-week limited season on Tuesday, 27 November 2018 (Press Nights: Thursday, 29 November and Friday, 30 November 2018 at 7.30pm).
