New Comedy Launches TADA Theatricals, a New Chicago-Based Theatrical Producing Company

The new Stan Zimmerman and Christian McLaughlin play, Knife to the Heart: The Circumcision Comedy, held a starry private reading on May 8, 2017, at Chicago's The Second City, the iconic institution home to some of the world's greatest comedy, produced by Steve Abrams, Tony D'Angelo, Stefani Nicole von Huben, Kim Stafford and Tommy Lipnick. Readings for potential investors and invited industry members are in preparation for a slated Chicago run in Spring 2018 at the Broadway Playhouse (exact dates to be announced), and mark the launch of new Chicago-based commercial producing team TADA Theatricals, led by Chicago theatre veterans Steve Abrams and Tony D'Angelo. Playing at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, across from the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, from which the story has taken inspiration, this limited Off Broadway engagement opened last night and will run through August 6th. Director Chris McLaurin makes a particularly auspicious debut at the helm of his rollicking - and beautifully sung and winningly staged - production of Gilbert and Sullivan's classic The Pirates of Penzance, now playing at Murfreesboro's Center for the Arts through August 27. Charming and engaging, McLaurin's Pirates hews closely to the comic opera's original production (the only one of Gilbert and Sullivan's works to actually have its initial staging on Broadway - in 1879), testament to the libretto's timelessness and its refreshingly contemporary humor.
