Review: 'JOSEPHINE' & 'PAGLIACCI' at Union Avenue Opera

It’s Summer! It’s HOT! It’s that usual time of the year when, in other parts of the country, people are enjoying walks on the beach or picnicking. Here in Texas, it’s too hot even for that, so do what any sane person would do and go see a play in a freezing cold theatre! Impact Arts has just the cure for your need to cool off AND have fun.

BWW Review: HERSHEY FELDER: A PARIS LOVE STORY Captures the Musical Magic of Claude Debussy's City of Light

by Shari Barrett - May 29, 2019

Debussy (1862-1918) is still known best as well as a seminal force in the music of the early 20th Century having developed a highly original system of harmony and musical structure that expressed in many respects the ideals to which the Impressionist painters and writers of his time aspired. Felder truly takes his audience on a journey through his own early walks down the streets of the composer's life in Paris. Thus, we are treated to the personal observations of both men who describe the City of Light's wondrously romantic settings from The Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, Notre Dame and its Point Zero, to a walk through The Tuileries Garden, down the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triumph, and on to the composer's home near the Bois de Boulogne.

Photo Flash: GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER Opens Today At Ivoryton Playhouse

by A.A. Cristi - Apr 24, 2019

When the movie, GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER, began filming in March 1967, it was still illegal for interracial couples to marry in fourteen states, mostly in the South. Changing attitudes in the country and the landmark case Loving v. Virginia coincided with the production of the movie and by the end of the year, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Mr. and Mrs. Loving, ruling that marriage is a fundamental human right and effectively ending all anti-miscegenation marriage laws in America.
