Alice Cooper Comes to King Center Next Week
by BWW News Desk - Sep 28, 2017

Alice Cooper topped the album sales charts worldwide with his new album, Paranormal, his first in six years. Cooper is known for pioneering a theatrical brand of hard rock that was designed to shock. Drawing equally from horror movies, vaudeville, and garage rock, the group created a stage show that featured electric chairs, guillotines, fake blood and boa constrictors. He continues to tour regularly, performing shows worldwide with the dark and horror-themed theatrics that he's best known for. Alice Cooper brings his own brand of rock psycho-drama to fans both old and new, enjoying it as much as the audience does. Known as the architect of shock-rock, Cooper has rattled the cages and undermined the authority of generations of guardians of the status quo, continuing to surprise fans and exude danger at every turn, like a great horror movie. His solo career skyrocketed in the late 1970's, with a succession of hit singles, including You & Me, and classic albums, including Lace And Whiskey and From The Inside, and bigger and even more elaborate concert tours. Casting Announced For THE CRUCIBLE at Gettysburg Community Theatre
by BWW News Desk - Sep 27, 2017

Gettysburg Community Theatre, located at 49 York Street within the first block of Lincoln Square in historic downtown Gettysburg, will present Arthur Miller's The Crucible October 13-29, 2017. The Crucible is a gripping drama about the Salem witch trials. Religion, conspiracy, witchcraft, and lust fill the story as paranoia becomes strong enough to Poison a whole town. Miller composed The Crucible as a dramatization of the Salem Witch Trials, with the witch trials standing in for the anti-Communist witch-hunts of the 1950s during the McCarthy era. As with the alleged witches of Salem, suspected Communists were encouraged to confess and identify other Communist sympathizers as means of escaping punishment. Many of those accused of Communism suffered loss of employment and/or destruction of their careers; some even suffered imprisonment. The corruption and deception Miller represented in The Crucible stands as a timely reminder to not always take everything at face value. Smear campaigning, or any type of intentional, premeditated effort to undermine an individual's or group's reputation, credibility, and character, has nearly become synonymous with modern-day politics. Like the accusations of witchcraft, smear campaigns focus on unverifiable rumors that are often distortions, half-truths, or even outright lies disseminated by gossip. Just as it was when written in the 1950's, The Crucible is still a timely parable of our contemporary and political society. (more...)

BWW Review: The Bright Side of Sad with Miguel Gutierrez and Madonna
by Audrey Moyce - Sep 1, 2017

SADONNA: THE SAD SONGS OF MADONNA. Such a title for Miguel Gutierrez's first full evening at Joe's Pub begs the question: why sad songs, and why Madonna? Gutierrez admitted early on that he came up with the name before he came up with anything else, but also that hatching this plan for a show had given him the realization that Madonna had, in fact, been a part of his life for a long time. BWW Review: BORGIA INFAMI Premieres at the Edison Theatre
by Steve Callahan - Oct 4, 2017

Now, modern scholars tend to exonerate Lucrezia from being the diabolical Poisoner that her enemies have portrayed for 400 years. But let's face it, that diabolical Lucrezia makes much better opera. Donizetti knew that, as shown in his 1833 opera about her. Victor Hugo displayed the same sensibility in his hyper-melodramatic tragedy which appeared in the same year. In this new opera, Borgia Infami, Lucrezia is tainted with those same old sins - a little incest and the Poisoning of a whole dinner party - including (inadvertantly) her own beloved bastard son.
