Review: A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER at Austin Playhouse
by Sabrina Wallace - Apr 21, 2026

Austin Playhouse’s A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, directed by Lara Toner Haddock, is a fast, witty farce about Monty Navarro and his murderous path to inheritance. The humor lands through timing and structure rather than weight or message. I’d almost forgotten how funny it is, and it’s simply built to keep you laughing.

Interview: Ellis C. Dawson of SPAMALOT at THEATRE UNDER THE STARS

Out of the knights, I knew the least about Monty Python, so I had a lot of catching up to do. I was building the plane as I was flying it, but they were so gracious in helping me learn about the style of comedy that it is.

Review: THE MUSIC MAN at Van Wezel
by Shanti - Apr 15, 2026

From the very first moment the lights went down, this production of Meredith Willson's beloved classic made it clear it was going to be something special. The opening scene set the tone immediately — the ensemble cast moved in perfect synchrony, their bodies swaying and jolting in unison to conjure the rhythmic clatter of a train in motion, no props required. It was one of those rare theatrical moments where you lean forward in your seat and think: yes, this is going to be a good night.

Review: IN THE HEIGHTS Returns to Musical Theatre West
by Michael Quintos - Apr 13, 2026

Bursting with contagious rhythm, irrepressible heart, and an abiding sense of community pride, Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony Award-winning 2008 original Broadway musical IN THE HEIGHTS remains one of the most vibrant and emotionally resonant contemporary musicals to emerge from the early 21st century. For Musical Theatre West, this current 2026 production of the musical—which continues performances at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach through April 26, 2026—is an anticipated return of a musical that this company first staged back in the Fall of 2017. In essence, it's nice to come home to something comfortably familiar.

Student Blog: Finding Grandpa Joe
by Student Blogger: Jed Stahlback - Apr 1, 2026

Going into auditions, I had already made assumptions about where I fit. I’m a freshman. I’m 18. And while I’ve played older roles before in high school (roles I absolutely loved), I guess I thought college would be different. I assumed I’d need to “work my way up” before being considered for characters like that again. So I didn’t audition for Grandpa Joe specifically. I didn’t really let myself imagine it as a possibility.
